8 teams in Region 1 seems like alot. Do any other regions now have 8 teams?

There is a region in 4A that currently has 9 teams.

Region 5 in 4A has Marshall County, Pearl Cohn, Creekwood, Greenbrier, Lawrence County, Tullahoma, Hillwood, Montgomery Central, and Glencliff.

But this one will change dramatically when they change it all up: Pearl Cohn drops to 3A and Lawrence County, Tullahoma, and Glencliff will all move up to 5A.

Pearl Cohn was placed in 3A last reclassification and chose to play up, if I'm not mistaken...not a guarantee that they would again, but you'd have to figure that they might.

Got it!  I thought I had heard something about them being classified as 3A but played up but wasn't for sure.  Hopefully they go back to 3A and take another shot at Alcoa for the title, lol.

I'm not a betting man, but I wouldn't take a suckers bet that Alcoa will still be 3A when the dust settles either.

If they base it on their numbers then they are square right in the middle of 3A, but who knows, they may pull a Pearl and move up. It's crazy that a 3A school can compete with 4, 5, and 6A schools on a yearly basis.

Thanks.

Have you heard of any wishing to play up?

Elizabethton about 10-12yrs ago played down. But losing to CAK (Private) and Alcoa. . Last meeting a 17-14 loss on the road. Decided to move up into 4A because they lost alot of traditional rivalry games with Tn High Daniel Boone etc to fill their 3A schedule with Granger and Pigeon Forge and Chucky Doak. All uncompetitive and the gate was small both at home and on the road.
Moved to 4A a little late to avoid Alcoa (Private jus not caught recruiting yet) And Won 2 State Championships and a Silver Ball last year. Should have been 3 in a row but we’re a little beat up from beating arguably the Best Team last year on the road Greenville by 6.
Not taking anything from the but that game was even for 4qts. Congrats Wildcats. Elizabethton is i believe is the ONLY team in history to lose a semi to an eventual St Champ going back to the 98 game with Maryville. 19-13 on a last sec trick play. Plus i believe 6 others btw either Alcoa or CAK. Honestly the Cyclones should have about 6 Silver Balls to go with the 2 Gold ones they have. As I’ve said before going Private vs Public has leveled the playing field. . And addressing whatever is going on at Alcoa? Their Program is obviously recruiting Players. Is it offering high paying  Jobs to the Knox area talent to their Parents at “Alcoa Corp”. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Corp adds 100K to the Qb Club budget to pay the HC? Alcoa needs to either be classified UP or be put in Private. Pick your poison Alcoa Fans. Enough is Enough. Wake up TSSAA

This 100% ^

Knowing Alcoa theyll likely drop to 2A cuz they are bored of 3A (and done all they can do there) and Scared of 4A and 4A Playoffs

Also, speaking of Private, Rankin is there now

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
