Way too early AAAA favorites…

Blackman has looked good in the preseason.  I was impressed with Cookeville in the summer but they did not look very good earlier this week.  Oakland will get better as the season goes on and Cleveland versus Bradley will be a battle all year in East Tennessee.  Lebanon should compete in a weak district and region but their youth will be exposed at the substate and state level.  I still say the champs will come out is the East

I think you also have to throw in Coffee and Warren into that mix.  The battle to get to Murfreesboro from that sub-state will be one to watch.  I saw that somewhere Bradley beat Blackman by 18 at Lebanon in a preseason play day.  I have also heard a lot about Bartlett but have not seen them play.

I plan to watch Warren county in the next few weeks but agree they should be able to play good basketball until they face some size and good coaching.  Their lack of length to go along with the junk offensive play calls and defensive schemes will get them beat in tournament match-ups.

Coffee County is always a formidable team but can never seem to get over the hump in the region.  Is this year any different than past years with much more talented teams?  I do agree, they are the best team top to bottom in middle tennessee south of Murfreesboro regardless of classification.

Coffee County needs to play some really good competition early to get ready to make deep impactful runs late in the year.  They should not be playing Central Magnet and Columbia Academy which only boosts their win total but does not help them with tournament play late in the year when it matters. They have Bradley Central coming to their gym Saturday and Warren County will face them.  This will be the type of team Warren County will struggle against all year, big and physical with outside shooters who can spread you out.  Page will also be playing Ravenwood but Ravenwood is down and not very good this year, however it is a chance for AAA folks to see a new Page team with a familiar middle tennessee face coaching them.
Coffee County should dominate their hall of fame games with the most interesting Contest being between the pioneers and the bears.

What happened to Warren County this past weekend?  Even though Bradley and York are two of the better teams in TN, loosing by 19 and 28 does not look very good.  Also, it appears that Coffee scheduled easy teams for the HOF day.  They aren’t getting any better scheduling bad competition.

The Bradley/Cleveland game should be a good one.  According to the TN Report, it will be a 3 vs 6 matchup.  Cleveland is a senior led team with a super sophomore.  Bradley is a rather young team, starting two sophomores and a freshmen.  Guess we will see on December 2nd.

Sorry I have been down with the flu the past few days but I did get a chance to catch the Bradley and Warren County game on Saturday.  Bradley has a lot of talent and size where Warren County is small and quick in some areas but they rely heavy on zone defense and trapping full court pressure which does not work when you are one shot and done or turning the ball over consistently.  I also think Bradley had the upperhand with coaching, the girls looked more prepared and it showed with their play.

I did not see the other game, games were running so far behind on Saturday I believe it was close to 8:00 before they played it.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
