I assumed their numbers were growing. Had no idea they are closer to 3a.

I looked it up they were barely at 800 a few years ago but are already over 900. If they continue to grow like that it’s possible that they do move up. Putnam is considering a new HS to lessen the amount of students in Cookeville but until then it looks as if they are content to move kids to Upperman. The cut off for 5A now is around 1125.

Here is the thing folks can't comprehend. Putnam is split into 3 bus zones. West Putnam-Upperman, Central Putnam-Cookeville, East Putnam-Montery. So the fact Baxter has 1600 residents or not, Upperman is a west Putnam bus zoned school. That is literally from Buffalo Valley to almost Willow Ave. Only a fraction of the students are "from Baxter" city limits. Now let say a county like Macon, in general numbets, built RBS a new bigger school on the west side of thier city limits. Enrollment jumps from 180 to 450. Macon drops from 930 to say 680. And say, Macon sports programs continue to thrive, RBS does not. So the say the same  team MCHS  has now, is playing in 3a. That's the basic math of what's happening. Better programs draw atheltes in open zoned systems, which is 80% of all schools in Tennessee. You build it, they will come.

But, what is the solution? Go from 9 playoff brackets to 12? Cancel all school choice within all counties over sports? Special multipliers? Give rual counties 7 point advantage to start games?  Back in the day, you had 3 divisions. 3 champions. Teams like Macon were in same division as teams from Smith County up to teams like Springfield. Folks lined up and played ball. What is the solution for all the cry babies so they feel completely equal and not disadvantaged? Pointing out a problem without a solution is simple being a crybaby, not a problem solver.

You see what I see.

Then is it safe to say that when the D was playing lights out a few years ago… it was more about Jimmy and Joes than Hackett?

I’m not trying to stir the pot here, but you can’t have it both ways.

When H2O was playing it’s best defense all that everyone kept saying is that Hackett was a defensive genius and not much said about the kids playing D.

Now that our defense is horrible… it’s because the kids are not good enough and none of it rides on Hackett?

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
