cowcatcherII
I hope this can help rejuvenate the board and get everyone excited for the season. South East Wrestling does a great job with these State of the Program articles. I found them very interesting. This will give you an inside look at what some teams will look like this year. KidGloves
I like those articles, but did I read the McCallie one right? Cooper Ledbetter is STILL an 8th grader? Isn’t he 16? Are they letting him drive the bus to the matches? That’s wild.

I dint know about this particular case but in AAU it's common. I know of a HS sophomore (ranked) who is older than another ranked kid, same weight class, that is a senior. KidGloves
That’s pretty wild. I hate to see it. To be fair, Ledbetter might not be 16 but definitely turns 16 as a freshman. I graduated when I was 17. When I was in school, anyone 19-20 years old was a cop. Lol. Guess they’re just wrestlers now.

It appears as though they will have 4-5 19 year olds in their graduating class 5 years from now with one or 2 turning 2- 4 months after graduation. Same here, I was in college and away from home at 17, have never understood why anyone would do this, it’s wrestling and it’s very hard to make a living doing so after you are done with the sport unless you stay to coach and heck you can do that even if you didn’t graduate high school at 19 almost 20. Of course the same thing happens in college where they take an Olympic year, a redshirt year and if that got the Covid year they could be pretty old(college age that is) and still wrestling college. TotallynotLEO
People do this for those coveted AAU championships they can put on a resume I guess. It happens at public schools a lot too. The ones I know of are at public schools.

You’re not talking about the AAU state championships whos importance immediately expire when you walk off the mat after your last AAU match are you? The new car of the wrestling world. Depreciated as soon as it’s driven off the lot. How many HS wrestlers care about a kid’s AAU championship? If that’s the reasoning for, shame on them. Don’t live through being able to post that your kid is a state champ on facebook.
