Fair enough, I was watching in that time frame of christmas tourneys. If they have improved shot making as you've stated then thats bad news for the other teams in 3A. Lol

I can’t speak for other schools but Hume-Foggs coaching staff does a pretty good job updating the stats on max preps. Currently 3 guys from 3 pt range a 37% a 36% and a 32%. The 32% had the roughest stretch of the 3 in that Christmas break and week or two after. He was shooting 40% right before it.

now I will say Hume-Fogg won’t make it far if they don’t shoot like their averages. They won’t be able to rely on athleticism alone come state tournament time, and honestly probably need to shoot well in their sub state game too.

biggest differences since that Christmas tourney:

they’ve got a 4th guy who can score and is probably their 3rd best scorer now. The lone junior on the team has come on HOT in the second half. He wasn’t there for the game against mcadory.

their worst free throw shooter (who took a ton at the Christmas tourney and wasn’t pretty) has gotten a little bit better, and by that I mean he went from like 30% to now probably 50% from the line. Which while still not good, is a lot better than where it was.

Now I don’t want to get into this other talk about talent levels and such. However I do think it’s becoming clearer that D2 (private schools) are starting to separate further from D1(non private schools). Outside of like 4-5 4A schools the top teams are private schools. With some exceptions. That shouldn’t be a surprise though as many times they recruit and can offer much more for talented players than public schools usually can.

Agreed. Like I said, Nature of the Beast. However, it has negatively influenced the talent we see inside the glass house come March! See y'all there. Post season basketball is the best!

I think he is wanting why you believe Upperman and Greeneville have a better chance than Fayette Ware.

The nice thing about the sport is they get to prove it on the floor when it counts. FW is good no doubt about it and if they are the best then they will hoist the gold ball in March. Right now all we have are opinions ( biased if we are being honest) Knightsfan is pretty close on all his assessments with very little biase. If you disagree, that’s allowed it’s ok to have a discussion about why you disagree.

Totally agree with your comment. I personally think knight and several others of you have made this the best thread on the T.

It all comes down to coaching and Fuller(Southside) is one of the best to do it. Don’t know much about the other coaches but I pick Southside

He definitely is! Here is what i know in terms of coaching:

as stated South Side coach has years of experience and state championship experience.

Upperman coaches are pretty good

id assume greeneville coaches are pretty good (they are in most sports and have won state championships in basketball in last 4 years.

Hume-Fogg coaches, while first year coaching at Hume-Fogg have had prior coaching stints at the college level. Now will that translate to high school, we will see. I definitely trust that they know what they are doing.

i can’t speak to Fayette ware, TN High, North Side, and stone memorial as i don’t have any knowledge, but I am sure there are people on this board that do.

Greeneville has had the same head Coach in Brad Woolsey since 2010 and he was the assistant coach under Bill Duncan starting in 2000 and played for Greeneville and Carson Newman.  He is a great coach, great teacher, great mentor, great Athletic director, and a great Godly Man. Under Woosley Greeneville has been to State 4 times and always won a game there and two championships. (Went 3 times as an assistant under Duncan when Greenevile played up in the largest Classification) Greeneville is always one of the best teams in NE Tennessee year after year.

Agreed. Top tier program year in and year out. SS always tough to beat so a lot of credit goes to the coaching staff.

Upperman is well coached. McWilliams needs to bring home another gold ball for the family trophy case as his wife has won 3 gold balls coaching the Upperman girls.

A couple of upsets in 3A. David Crockett beats TN High 80-72.
east ridge beats Red Bank 56-54.

MLK beats Lawson on Lawsons senior night 71-60 to have a tie for 2nd in district 10. MLK will get the 2 seed unless Lawson beats Hume-Fogg Friday.

Hume-Fogg clinches their districts 1 seed tonight.

Update on the TN High loss to David Crockett. I was able to go back and watch the game. This was a case of David Crockett shot the ball very very well, especially in the first half. While TN High couldn't seem to hit much from 3 even when it was a good look. The game was about a 15 point game most of the night.
