Loretto/Summertown Just Got Amped Up

One of the best rivalries in the state just got amped up a little bit more. Last week it was announced that Grayson Burleson had transferred from the blue and white to the black and gold so that he can play basketball. Without getting into why the transfer happened, I am sure Eagles fans everywhere will be unhappy with the Mustangs. As an Eagles fan myself, how do you cheer for a really good guy when he now plays for the biggest rival in you schools history?

The coach/dad has not built a house in the Loretto area. He owns a house surrounded by family and family land. Loretto does have an established baseball program and also coming off a state championship, but what does that say about a head coach sending his kid somewhere else to play baseball? Maybe to get better coached? A lateral move to a rival to say the least.  As far as basketball, Loretto hasn’t won the district during the 3 years that’s the transferring player has been at Summertown. Summertown won the district this past season and basically wasn’t going to lose anyone this season and possible getting a returning senior that could be back from an injury. A lot to the back story I would assume. Seems like a lot  to sacrifice to play 1 season.

And now Coach Burleson has resigned as the head baseball coach at Summertown. This story gets deeper and deeper

Now the coach will end up on the Loretto faculty. Sounds like he figured out his son wasn’t going to be eligible any other way since it appears they were not moving.

They have open enrollment in Lawrence County.

Open enrollment doesn’t really matter in this case. Only way the kid gets eligible is if the whole family moves to Loretto with a true change of address or if dad goes to work at Loretto. Dad has been a coach a long time. He knows the rules. He’ll make sure it happens legally.

Assuming he gets eligible, Loretto is a legit threat to win state titles in baseball and basketball.

Exactly as you said and add to that they'd have to completely "abandon" or sell their current residence if they own it...no going back on weekends, no utilities, and no mail!
