2024/25 West TN Girls Basketball

South Gibson had that best spot on the bracket and couldn't get the job done. They struggled to score for the 2nd straight year. 14 last year and 29 this year. Their defense isn't what people say it is. Their a solid team, but I don't see them being much better next season. #23 is a hand full, but I expected more out of the freshman #24 and #33 use to be a shooter, but Embry has her playing point now. Dyersburg and South Side is my way too early prediction from that new region.

It was low hanging fruit for South Gibson and the draw this year at state. Going to be interesting. I see a South Side/South Gibson loser leave town match and I will have to see it to believe it that they beat South Side in the Region Semis. South Side has had their number and the main reason is their pressure defense. And it ain't going away. Losing Askins will be a big loss but South Side will be good next year.

South Gibson can't score. They can guard which will give them a chance but the idea of defense winning championships is a good idea but you gotta score more than 30 points and they simply can't do it. Will this change next season?  My prediction is South Gibson wins a state tournament next season. That freshman class they have this season will be sooooo much stronger, bigger and more skilled next season. It will be fun to watch that region.

They certainly have the potential. If I am South Gibson, I would work on offensive drill after offensive drill this offseason. As good as their press is, I believe I press most of the game and create havoc. A defense that good just don't need to be in the half court. Look what Greenfield did this year with their defense and press. Whoever finishes second in the District Tournament will have South Side to deal with. South Gibson has had major problems with South Side's pressure for years. Going to be fun I agree.

Probably some disappointment for all the west TN 3A teams in Murfreesboro. 

Dyersburg was the most talented team there - probably the only team that could have beaten White Co.  If Dyersburg and Northview play 10 times, Dyersburg probably wins 8. But hard to win if only 3 players score. They’ll miss Crawford next year but will still be really good.

South Side felt like they had a shot this year with Askins as a senior. They drew a team that got hot at the right time. Scoring will be a lot harder for them next year without Askins.
 

South Gibson struggled offensively most of the season. If they couldn’t turn teams over, scoring was hard. This has been the case for them the last two years and will probably continue to be the case until they get more skilled players into the program.  
 

The way the games were officiated also had a big impact on all three West TN teams. All three are very physical teams and were allowed to be so all year. If you watched the semifinal games, foul trouble was one of the main factors in not getting round five of Dyersburg and South Gibson.

Biggest problem I seen is one possesion they call a touch foul and the next possesion there is lots of contact and no call. No consistency. How the Jackson Association is not getting anyone to Murfreesboro is a head scratcher. Been some that have called there in past. And I think they do a really good job in West TN now.

Well, I guess we all have our own opinions. Did you watch the game? Were you there? Yes, the game was low scoring but it was for both teams.  Did you see that 4 of the 5 starters in the game fouled out? 

SGC defense this year was legit. Go look at the teams we played and compare the points the scored on SGC vs their average........ Please. Go blow that smoke somewhere else.

When SGC had eight points with 4:44 left in Q1 against Heritage I thought they were in a great spot as 40 points has been their magic number. And while fouls were an issue the e tire tournament, 25.6% shooting for the game and 1-16 from three was their downfall.

I love stats. They just simply tell the truth. However, the officiating in this contest was suspect at best. You can look at my posts for the past several years... I do not complain about officiating. It is very hard job and I am not sure that I could do a better job. But dang....... 4 of our 5 starters fouled out of the contest. SGC was just a few fouls away from playing for a gold ball. If all of our starters are not sitting on the bench we win that game.... Just sharing my thoughts.

No disrespect taken and I totally agree about the officiating. The 3A tourney averaged 36 fouls per game. Tough to watch at times.

Actually, I was there, and I agree, officials were terrible for girls and boys. In my opinion, 3 or 4 players should not foul out in a game on that stage. However, I stand by South Gibson will struggle until they can score. Thats just my assessment and opinion. As good as Dunn is, she's not a point guard and her being the primary ball handler has taken away from her scoring which they need.

The west tennessee association officials, one was at D2 tournament and two were at D1 boys. Not sure why none had girls.
