David Lipscomb vs. Portland

"Just think of what would have happened if they hadn't stalled."

I can think of a lot of things that "Could Have" happened. Portland could have came back and won the game. Lipscomb "Could Have" won by over a hundred.

But we will never know because Lipscomb will "Never" not run the stall offense, It's the only play Roller knows. I would have thought he could have learned more from Coach Meyer...

You guys's don't know anything about Roller. Before he came to Lipscomb he coached H.S. ball in Georgia where he won 3 straight State titles going undefeated for those 3 years. He is one of the best coaches on any level I've ever been around. You have to consider that Lipscomb doesn't always have true natural athletic talent, so he has developed a system that fits those type of kids. In the 99-00 season Lipscomb went to the state final4 only to face what, a stalll game by Ridgeway. Can you beleive the Ridgeway Roadrunners stalled for the whole 3rd quarter. Ridgeway did a great job and the coaching decision was a good one. Lipscomb didnt have the athleticism to chase around the stall game. So to compare Roller to Meyer I'm sure he would consider that a complement because he's very humble but when it comes down to it you know nothing about what he's about unless you talk to him personally. Just ask the Portland staff and they will tell you Roller runs about the best offense you will ever see. They told me that but thats nothing that everybody doesn't already know.

I have seen Lipscomb play several times over the years. They run the stall or when Dean Smith ran it the four corners as well as any high school I have seen. They don't look to score the easy bucket as often as NC did.

That approach covers up a lack of overall athletic talent. The Stephen kid is probably the only one they have that you would call a real athlete. The others are primarily role players. It is not the most exciting thing to watch. However, it is tough to argue with wins.

If I am not mistaken their coach set the national high school consecutive win streak when he was like 29 years old. He looks to be 45 to 49 or so at this point. That record might not still stand after twenty years. But, he does know how to win.

titan man, i highly doubt that Lipscomb could be undefeated and only have one "athlete" and a bunch of role players. I also doubt that you have seen them play this year. I think your thinking of what you saw last year or years in the past and assume that this team is like all the other Lipscomb teams. I think these guys are completely different from any other team Lipscomb has ever had, but thats just my opinion.

Only one "real athlete?" How do you define "real athlete?" This is a team that has 3 starters from a state championship football team (one of them the MVP and all Mid-State), a couple of state champion baseballers - -but I guess they're not real athletes.

It's a long season with a lot of games to be played so who knows what happens before it's all over. Maybe Lipscomb isn't blessed with a D-1 prospect or the individual star athlete that some other teams are - - But just maybe that's why they're 11 - 0. Maybe it's because they know how to play together as at team. Maybe it's because they respect, listen to and play for their coach. Maybe their coach is about the best around.

11 - 0. Anyone who says these guys aren't athletes defines atleticism in a different way than I do.

Thunder

As a matter of fact, I have seen Lipscomb play four times this year and have kids currently attending the school. Have followed their program for twenty plus years as I have other programs in Nashville.

My wording was probably bad to say only one real athlete. Should have said only one athlete who happens to be very good at basketball. I am well aware of the football players on this team as I have followed that program also for twenty plus years.

Make no mistake though, this team would not be nearly as good as they are without Roller on the sideline demanding perfection. Also, these guys are not completely different than any other Lipscomb team. I have seen as least two Lipscomb teams that were far superior to this one. Primarily, because their defense was superior to this one. Don't get me wrong, this team plays very good defense. Only two more months of time will tell if this team can rise to another level.

Titan, Im glad you have kids there and have followed the program for how ever long BUT you just dont know what you are talking about. There are several guys besides the football guys and Stephen who are very good players and "real athletes". They have plenty of basketball talent but they just havent shown it yet. I respect your opinion but i also realize that your just another fan like all the other people in the stands and you really dont know what goes on. I also have been around the program for awhile and know for a fact that this team is completely different from any Lipscomb team before them.

Thunder, I'm not just another fan in the stands who does not know what is going on. I have more connections there than you can shake a stick at. You sound like a parent who can only see with his heart and not his eyes. Only time will tell if they are different than any other Lipscomb team. I hope you are right.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
