davidlimbaugh
The District 7-AAA Tournament at Riverdale saw 3 pretty good ones: Amhir Watkins of Blackman set the state record for most stolen bases in a career this season. Against Oakland he was 3 for 3 with a triple, a walk, 2 stolen bases and scored 2 runs. Against Riverdale he was 3 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Dougie Birkhoffer of Oakland, against Blackman, was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored a run. The next game against White County he was 2 for 3, with a walk, reaching base all four times (other time on an error) and scored 2 runs. Against Cookeville he was 1 for 3 with a HBP, a walk and reached on an error and scored 2 runs. In the rematch with Blackman he was 1 for 1 with 3 walks and scored a run. Against Riverdale in the finals he was 3 for 4 with a walk. and Riverdale's Nicky Luper was of 1 for 2 with a walk in one game and in the championship game against Oakland was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk, reaching base all four times, and scored 2 runs. Three pretty good leadoff hitters - agreed? Edited May 10, 2003 by davidlimbaugh
Kentro
No doubt about it it's Ahmir Watkins from Blackman High School. Hit over 400 this year and set the state high school stolen base record this year. Nobody tops that one. Wwhen he gets on nobody throws him out and he puts a tremendous amount of pressure on opposing pitching. He is the top man.
KevB1990
It is Jason Gray, center fielder and pitcher for Rutledge. Batting around .470, scored 45 runs, 20 steals OBP is close to .600. He's a tough out...period.
MrBlack
I will have to say Ahmir Watkins is the best. I looked at the Blackmans web site and his stats are awesome. He had 51 hits out of 104 at bats for an avg. of .490. 24 rbi's as a leadoff hitter, .721 slug. percentage, .555 OBP, only struck out 5 times, and 42 stolen bases. He also led the team in doubles and triples.
letsplay2
It's already been said but it's worth saying again. Ahmir Watkins is the best lead off hitter we saw all year. I think he should be the player of the year in District 7 AAA.
gomabsilk
Ahmir Watkins is easily the best. Great bat, great speed, great knowledge of the game. He is not only the best lead off hitter-he is one of the best players in the state!!!
