Powell High School athletic facilities

Does anyone have any opinions on Powell High School athletic facilities, such as their football and baseball stadiums and fields? How do they measure up to others in the region?

They have a nice football playing surface. Their stadium does not have enough seating, at least with the crowd that Maryville brings to Powell. I'm sure when they play Halls and Central seating could be an issue too. Can't say about baseball. Haven't seen it. Go Rebs.

The football field at Powell is as good as any one would play on. The stadium is small, and is quite old. It is on the list for replacement by Knox County, and could be replaced within the next couple of years. The current stadium seats only about 2,500, but for games with Halls and Karns last season, about twice that many people were in the house. If you don't get there a good hour before gametime, you don't get a seat.

 

The baseball facility is good, with the exception that the field is built in a flood plane on the banks of Beaver Creek. The field itself was completely under water during the flooding back in Feburary of this past year, and as a result was quite soft all season long. Even so, it is as good a facility as most in the district. You might be surprised to know that Campbell County has the best baseball facility in the district.

I agree seating is an issue at Powell, even though i have always gotten there early enough to get a seat when Maryville goes over there. not sure if they have a visitors dressing room either. seems like Maryville goes down a hill or stairs to another adjoining field before the game and at halftime. But at the same time I like the atmosphere at Powell. Great fan support, people cooking out, and the fans are real polite there. More seating would be great but i would work hard to keep the same setting. Clark Duncan is a class act and runs a good program.

I like the pregame atmosphere at Powell. I watched them play Clinton when they played the thursday before the Knox Central vs Maryville game.I like watching the Rebels play there. I like it when the players run on the field with the smoke and the PA system playing Guns n Roses song "Welcome to the Jungle"

Visiting teams have the option of using the PE locker room in the gym at Powell. Some do, and some don't. Nomally, it depends on how far the visiting teams has to travel, and what the weather conditions are.

 

MHS - The "new" stadium will be built on the site of the current facility. The current stands will be torn down and replaced with a larger and more contemporary design. The playing surface will stay as is.
