What is going on at Munford? It seems like they are looking for a new head coach every year. Is it facilities, administration, $$$$, parents who want to hire and fire, etc. Someone please explain. Good luck to all week two of TSSAA playoffs participants.

Are they looking for a new head coach now? They've had Mahoney for two years. Williams for 3 or 4 years before that. They just haven't been winning like the Munford of the '90s and the community is antsy about that.

Well, I can tell you that it's not the facilities. Munford's stadium is down in hole which gives it a nice bowl stadium affect. Both home and visitor bleachers are well sized.

I agree the home side is nice. When Covington go's to Munford we never have enough seating. The visitors side is to small for a 4A school. The place is very nice. When they were winning they had great fan support. They still have good home support but the dont travel well.

There are a combination of factors that have contributed to Munford being down the last few years. The biggest factor is probably the addition of the third high school in Tipton County. For many years during the 80's and 90's, there was no high school in Brighton. Although some of the students at Brighton would have been zoned to go to Covington, the majority of them would be at Munford. Like Saintdog said earlier in the thread, the community isn't used to this and would like to see a team more like those they watched during the 90's. Incidentally, the head coach of those teams, Darry Marshall, is now the principal at the school, so I would expect a good hire to be made in the very near future.

Daryl Walker has moved on to the Tipton Co. Board of Education as the Director of Pupil Services. He was a great principal and seems to be enjoying his job at the board.

One reason Munford beat Carver is that Carver turned the ball over a few times in crucial situations, especially on their own 20 yd line or so. Also, Munford blocked a punt and ran it in for a TD.

 

Also, is Munford looking for a new coach? Have they fired Mahoney?

Thanks, it's looking like it could be a Milan/Carver showdown next week. What do you think is going to happen? Does Carver have a passing game?

Coach Mahoney is a good coach, re: the victory over Carver, some people think you can win every game. Every Friday night one half of the teams in the state lose.
