I looked at the program from last yrs smyrna vs oakland game as well as the game tape today. All I can say is wow! you lost a lot of full time players. I knew it was a lot but if you go through the players that had significant time in the game they are virtually all gone. This has to be an extremely young team in 2004.

Does a kid named Michael Wright still play at Oakland. I coached him in youth league yrs ago, he was huge back then but like a lot of big guys when they are young not overly aggresive. Is he still there?

Guest Oakland

yeh, oakland is very young, they will have 8 underclassmen on defense and 7 on offense, so this year will be down but it is setting up nicely in 2005. but oakland this year has somethin that they havent the past few years, numbers. they will go into spring practice with about 60 players, which is almost twice as many from last year. although, we will be down i still remain optimistic that oakland can make the playoffs

I was checking out the results from Blackman's Night of Champions in the Rutherford AM a couple days a go and was really impressed with some of the weight totals these guys were lifting. If nothing else, Blackman will have some very strong players on the field.

I believe they had 8-10 guys that lifted over 1000 pounds on their three lifts. Sounds like another power football team on the way. In contrast, during Riverdale's last spring test, they had only one player lifting 1000 pounds. Looks like another speed team on the way.

Is there a benchmark that should be used to determine if a player is strong enough? I would assume that the number is different for linemen, linebackers and skill position players.

Thanks for any input...

strength is very important more important.More important is the muscle mass added that basically gives you a body that can withstand the pounding of a varsity 5 a football game.

Technique especially for lineman is probably more important, how many times have you seen a bigger stronger player get his but whipped by a smaller player.

Of course the perfect player is strong and has technique and is filled with the desire to win.

I know Smyrna has several over a thousand I will ck and see.
