Basically for the 400, if you aren't fast you just have to work ur butt off. Run some mixed long distance (once or twice a week about 5 miles) and run a lot of hard sprints atleast 10 200's stuff to that effect, with little rest. You have to work up your endurance. Also trying running uphills to keep your stride extended. Some people tend to shorten their stride when they get tired (like going up a hill) but if you can condition yourself and practice keeping your stride the same then you do not have a problem with fatigue towards the end of the race, and thats usually where the 400 meters is won, in the last 100 meters.

Does no one remember Jordan Jeffers from Scott High he was the only person to make state in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. He won the 400 and finished 2nd to Anderson in 100m. He has already ran a 52.4 sec. 400m and still gets no respect.

Not to down Jordan or anything, but a 52.4 wouldn't even qualify for state in AAA. He is obviously a very good runner in his region, but the only reason he has a shot at state is that he is in a lower division. Good AAA teams have 4 guys that can run under 52 seconds in the 4x400.

What were his times in the 100 and 200?

Is Lavergne's 4x800 really as good as what's being said? They ran around an 8:20 last year i believe, and the claim of them being the future state champions would take a big jump even to be in the same race with the likes of a 7:55 or a 7:57 (1st and 2nd in last years state) much less win. Also, with a fourth place finish in last year's regional meet behind Kenwood (an 8:08 that loses two runners), Beech (an 8:08 that also loses 2 runners),and Brentwood (an 8:11 that lost only 1 runner). Has Lavergne really made that big of a jump in only a year? Someone let me know!

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
