its u-knock-A ;)

this is the correct pronounciation and there is a long line of history behind it. back in the early 1900s ricky steadman was the chaplain of the town square. there was a hearing about how the name should be pronounced. the "jury" or majority of the ppl in attendence voted for it to be pronounced yoo-knock-kah. from the founding of Unaka until this time there was a big confusion about how it should be said. people were still set in there ways and would not change how they said the name. with all the differentiations the mayor wanted to change the name back to yoo-nay-kah. the sherriff and the chaplain did not think this would be a good idea to go against the way the majority voted. the populous heard of this and the mayor was assassinated later that year. the mayors assassination was thought to be a result of the disagreement on the name. the assissanator was executed and the name was then changed back to yoo-nay-kah in honor of the mayor. these ppl were serious about their name. thought this would be a good history lesson for the day.

GO YOONAYKAH
