Best of luck to the Eagles tonight. I saw the UT players climbing into their buses today, and it reminded me of watching all the BA guys in past years getting ready to head out to Memphis around this time of day. I can't wait to get home from Jacksboro and discover a BA victory on the scoreboard!

My pick:

Academy 24, Memphis University School 21

I know I'm looking really far ahead, but Varn is a senior I think, so who's on the team now that can kick when Baker graduates in two years? Good luck BA tonight against MUS. They should win, but it will close. I think BA will play another 17-14 game in Memphis this year, but they will win this one.

As everyone probably knows by now, we didn't do as well as we would have liked to in Memphis the other week. Our team this year is very talented, but it seems that the players just haven't found the way to kick their play up another notch. I think we're a solid quarter away from finding that intensity, but it seems that we just haven't found it yet.

Any thoughts/predictions on the BA-Baylor game this Friday?

Brentwood Academy has never lost to Baylor, and I don't expect the streak to end this week, though it should be a close game. Hopefully the Eagles can protect the football and focus on fundamentals -- a decisive win against the Red Raiders would go a long way to restoring this team's confidence.

Actually, BA did lose by 14-7 to Baylor in 1981, but that is their only loss. This should be an intriguing matchup of two teams with a lot of potential and talent, but neither have played up to their ability. The loser is almost guarenteed the 6 seed in the playoffs, while the winner still has a shot at a home game. I see a hard fought, 4 quarter game with the team making the fewest mistakes winning.

Once again, the BA 2004 thread will be dusted off for one final theme: the 2004 State Championship.

Looking back over all these past posts just reminds me how much I love this BA team. Looks like "Against all odds" was pretty darn accurate.

You can never fault Brentwood Academy's heart. It's what the school was built upon, and it is the team's greatest strength every year. Hopefully body, mind, and spirit will all be tightly aligned so the Eagles can finally break into double digits in the championship column.

    • Sorry Barn. I wasn’t specific enough. It seems I’m always protecting the principal at 825. My interactions with her have been extremely positive, but very limited. With all the other stories being told, I’m confident there are other sides I am not aware of. Regardless, there are lots of decent people earning good checks up there. Maybe too good, which explains why no one is willing to speak up. My beef is with the poor communication among the athletic programs and with the administration. Seven years ago the poor communication led to my son missing graduation due to a sporting event that was planned months before. I chalked it up to the system being totally shocked that the baseball team made it out of their district, and our then AD was a football coach. Maybe they were surprised and did not plan appropriately. That was more palatable than they just didn’t give a crap. Déjà vu, seven years later, same thing. Different administration, but same result.  Maybe in seven more years, it will actually be “about the kids”. They should do better.
