wingman10
The states oldest continuous meeting. I'm sure there are a lot of other heated rivalries but I can't imagine any being more intense. If you are going to harass a player as he is taken out of the stadium in an ambulance that's pretty dang heated. classless

Governm
I lived in South Pittsburg for awhile and went to one of their playoff games against Gordonsville. I saw grown men from SP heckling Gordonsville players when they were going to the locker room at halftime. They were calling them losers ,cussing them, and calling them everything else in the book. It was sad, really sad. Edited January 14, 2015 by Governors91
RebRaider85
When I think of rivalries I think of two historically good programs with a series that hasn't really been one sided. And when I think of that I think of Dobyns-Bennett/Oak Ridge. Although they haven't played in recent years these two teams have had some great battles throughout the years with a lot of those battles coming in do or die playoff games. The overall record between the two schools is tied at 19-19. Doesn't get any better than that. Not to mention the two schools will forever be linked to one another. When the Wildcat football program was started up by the late Ben Martin (OR's 1st HC) he purposefully wanted our colors to be similar to that of Dobyns-Bennett who at the time was the dominant program in Tennessee in 1943.No wonder that the early OR teams had that Dobyns-Bennett look. Tennessee Eastman (today's Eastman Chemical Company) was hired by the Army Corps of Engineers to manage and run the Y12 facility during the Manhattan Project when Oak Ridge was being built. I think they ran Y12 from '43 to '47. Lots of Kingsport people relocated to Oak Ridge during those years to help the war effort.

The two cities have a lot in common through the years.
RebRaider85
Wow. Another link between the two towns. I didn't know that. The two cities have a lot in common through the years. When I started working back in the 80's the oldest few of those who moved to OR in the 40's but returned to finish their careers at Eastman were retiring and I heard several stories about OR in the early days.
