I can't say I am sad to see Meigs, Polk and Tellico Plains move up, nothing terrible about playing them but the distance there and for them to play here adds up. That leaves Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Marion, Tyner and Boyd-Buchanan as 2A teams in the area., it may not seem like much but the 1A region locally has had only five also. My guess is that Smith, York, etc will be Region 4-2A, moving the "alphabet" schools into the west side of the state's regions. That's a lot like it was in the old days of having districts, Sequatchie and Marion usually playing a Rankin coached Smith County team and someone like Livingston in the first round games.

What's gutsy is all those 3A schools moving up to 4A.  Some of their enrollments are 100-200 students below the 4A cutoff, but they weren't scared.  None of them are even 3A powerhouses.  Now Maryville, on the other hand, well, ask George Q. and Jerry T. why they don't want to play in 5A.

All of the 3A schools moving up are in the Northeast and two of them (Elizabethton and Greeneville) have always played up. Johnson County and Unicoi County played up last classification period with Johnson County coming up from 2A to 4A and they made they playoffs once during that stretch. Sullivan North is the only school in Sullivan County that is not at least 4A in enrollment and I reckon they're looking to cut down on travel...having to make trips to New Tazewell, Maynardville, Pigeon Forge and Seymour is a lot...same for Johnson County and Unicoi County...

As far as Maryville is concerned...it's their prerogative whether or not they move. Their travel isn't a problem and they obviously are pretty much favorites to win the whole magilla each year in 4A. Moving to 5A would be a challenge, but I imagine with the way their enrollment is growing that'll take care of itself in 2007 when T$$AA does their check for 20% shifts in enrollment either way or in 2009 when we do this again...

As far as calling them cowardly for not playing up, y'all might ought to watch what you wish for because you might get it some day.

BTW...I don't hear anyone calling out Morristown West, Hillsboro or Melrose to move up to 5A...

I just figured up there will be 9 Class 3A teams around Chattanooga and I'm guessing all will be in the same region..East Ridge have only a couple of chances to play their city rivals, I have to wonder if they think the move down will be worth it? On a similar note, I counted 12 teams in the Chattanooga area for basketball, from Bledsoe to Brainerd, I wonder how they're going to divide them? My guess is Bledsoe, Grundy, Sequatchie and Marion will be joined by two teams from Chattanooga. The last time something like that happened, Arts and Sciences joined the valley teams but I have no idea who it would be this time.

In 4A, Maryville only plays one game that requires them to travel outside Blount/Knox counties. A move up to 5A would require more travel..Expenses! That is why we will stay 4A until forced to move up...no other reason :).

You can believe it or not....something tells me that this reasoned agrument will fall on deaf and biased ears :)

The following schools moved up in football.

5A

School Enrollment Comment

Ravenwood High School 1,146 Moved up from 4A

Independence High School 1,244 Moved up from 4A, New School, Projected enrollment by double 9th and 10th

Memphis Central High School 1,269 Moved up from 4A

4  Overton High School 1,348 Moved up from 4A

I wish Central and Overton had stayed down. Maybe then the TSSAA would fix Region 7-5A and 8-5A. 7 should be Bartlett, Bolton, Millington, Collierville, Germantown, Houston, and Arlington when they start playing...maybe Cordova for this cycle, not much longer though. 8 should be Cordova, Hamilton, White Station, Whitehaven, Central, Overton, Kirby.

It's worse in basketball, though...Region 7AAA has 9 teams, Region 8AAA has 16. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the current alignment.

    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
    • That's complete BS.  Nobody at ACHS has access to CHS student records unless a transfer is made from CHS to ACHS.
    • Trez's last scandal has died down, so I guess this is there opportunity to be the best 4A team playing in 2A a la Sissy MTN.  At least they won't be in a Z-district with 1a teams in the regular season.
    • Facts...until someone takes down the Rebels they should be the favorite. Got loads of young guys salivating at the opportunity to prove themselves and get a 3peat! Blazer how is Region 1 looking this year?
