I'm disappointed in the the Science Hill folks for not mentioning Spurrier. He played and coached in the NFL, although both were brief stints. Your friggin' field is named after him. Sad sad sad.

 

And Gerard Arnold from Lexington spent a brief time on the Redskins practice squad/injurded reserve list in early 2000s. Not fancy, but all we got.

Denver Crawford (Tennessee) 1948 New York Yankees(AAFC) (drafted by Packers but Yankees offered more $).

 

Hal Miller (Georgia Tech) 1953 San Francisco 49ers.

Also Jim Chadwell (Tennessee) was drafted by the NY Giants in 1945 and Darrell Crawford (Georgia Tech) was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in 1952 but neither played in NFL. Also Art Brumit (Memphis State) was a free agent in camp with the Packers but did not make the team.

Comments regarding questions in prior posts.

 

Brent Collins( UGA, Carson Newman) from Jeff County was on the Miami Dlophins practice squad one season but never made the actual active roster.

 

The Redmond from Oak Ridge was Jamie Redmond (MTSU), he was in camp with a couple NFL teams but did not make a roster. He played in the AFL for the Tampa Bay Storm in 1995.

 

A few others not mentioned are:

Aubrayo Franklin (Tennessee) of Johnson City Science Hill, 2003-present Baltimore Ravens

 

Van Williams (Carson Newman) of Johnson City Science Hill, 1983-85 Buffalo bills and 1987 New York Giants

 

Gary Dandridge (Appalachian State) of Bristol Tennessee High, 1994 Charlotte Rage (AFL)

What do you consider a brief stint! Granted he only lasted 2 years as a head coach but Steve Spurrier played 10 seasons in the NFL, 1967-75 with 49ers and 1976 with Tampa Bay
