Chad Clifton - Westview - Tennessee - Packers

Spurrier lived in Newport, TN as a small child where a neighbor Chris Jones (who later played for the NBA' Cincinnati Royals) taught him to play sports. His family moved to Johnson City where he was all-state in football, baseball and basketball. He was a great baseball and basketball player (led his team to state championship in baseball, was the best player on a team which had two future major leagers Ernie Bowman and Joe McClain on the roster! and I believe he made the all-state tournament team in basketball as well.) He wanted to go to UT but they had signed Bubba Wyche and didn't have a scholarship for another QB. Doug Dickey ( a former Florida player)was the Tennessee head coach at the time and Ray Graves ( a former UT player) was head coach at Florida. Dickey called Graves and said we've got this kid with a rifle arm but can't sign him but he can play and would fit into your offense, Graves signed him and the rest is history!

Oak Ridge has only had two players in the NFL, and they were Jason McCaddly who know plays for the tennessee titans, (alabama) and Mike Caldwell who plays for the Phillidelphia Eagles (MTSU) another palyer who might show up in the NFL soon is kicker Aaron Hunt who was the all time leading scorer and Clemson and who had several good training sessions with pro teams, so you never know, one who might have been able to play pro ball is Mikel Resnick, but that looks highly unlikely because he is attending West Point, and they don't let them out to play football ver yoften, but it was great to see them finally break their 19 game winless streak, GO BLACK KNIGHTS!!!

Stan Fritts from Oak Ridge played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 1975 and 1976.

See http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/players.nsf/ID/05620159 to look at his career stats.

Thought I would take care of two things with one post here.

Someone asked when several ORHS players graduated, here is what I've been able to find:

Stan Fritts - 1970

Danny Sanders - 1974

Jaime Redmond - 1988

Mike Caldwell - 1989

Jerry Colquitt - 1990

Jason McAddley - 1997

There is a listing of NFL players by state at NFLHS.com (http://www.nflhs.com/news/features/2004roster/tn.asp). It isn't up-to-date with the recent signing of McAddley by the Titans, so I've added that for posterity's sake. I've also attempted to correct any obvious typos with the spelling of a few schools, however I am not responsible for the accuracy, just relaying what was on the site. Many of the players already mentioned appear on the list.

Meigs Co. has had two, that I can think of.  Jeff Smith who played for a few teams, but ended his career with the Titans a few years ago.  Now he is working with the Vols in some way.  Also, we had Robby Scott who played a couple of seasons for the Redskins.  Both went to UT.  There may be more.  I know this is it, since the mid 80's.

Jeff is a strength and conditioning coach for UT right now. His career was ended with a knee injury that the Titans didn't want to deal with.

Comments regarding questions in prior posts.

Brent Collins( UGA, Carson Newman) from Jeff County was on the Miami Dlophins practice squad one season but never made the actual active roster.

The Redmond from Oak Ridge was Jamie Redmond (MTSU), he was in camp with a couple NFL teams but did not make a roster.  He played in the AFL for the Tampa Bay Storm in 1995.

A few others not mentioned are:

Aubrayo Franklin (Tennessee) of Johnson City Science Hill, 2003-present Baltimore Ravens

Van Williams (Carson Newman) of Johnson City Science Hill, 1983-85 Buffalo bills and 1987 New York Giants

Gary Dandridge (Appalachian State) of Bristol Tennessee High, 1994 Charlotte Rage (AFL)

Jamie Redmond is now the secondary coach and strength and conditioning coach. He has been one of the major factors in MBA's continued success.

From MBA:

Bill Wade - QB for the bears in the 50's or 60's

Hunter Hillenmeyer - starting at outside linebacker for the bears

Charles McCray and Larry Seivers from Clinton High School, both attended Tenn and then went on to play pro.

According to the UT Media Guide Charles McRae played for the Bucs from 1991 to 1995 and the Raiders in 1996. Larry Seivers was drafted by Seattle in the 4th round in 1977 but is not listed as actually making the team.
