Matthew Dotson

That is not a put down to Dotson.  It really does look like he is playing his cards right.  He can go to Belmont or Lipscomb and walk on the court immediately and play.  At UT it would take some time.  Look at Boomer Herndon (7'0") and he had problems finding the court.  Why not go to UT and work everyday to get better? He will get more work there.  Besides, it is not polite to call someone a "fool", especially to someone who is saying that Dotson may be doing the right thing for him.  Now, what is UT thinking?  To me, if they cannot find a place for Herndon, then what are there plans for Dotson?  Dawg, you need to think and read carefully before you call someone a fool after reading this board.  If you look at other posts, people are ripping the fact that UT signed Dotson, I'm stating that Dotson is playing his cards right.

If he does play for UT his entire career, he will only be a role player at best. If it is between him and Tyler Smith for playing time Tyler will get the nod. He should go to Belmont play closer at home and try to get the Bruins to the NCAA's.

He and Tyler dont play the same position. So that wouldn't cause a problem.

Why do some of you have to start out "dawg"ing the bashing and then finish your statement "But I don't think he is D-1 material" All I have to say is to all you "professional scouts" out there that evidently should be working at a High Major recruiting with all your vast knowledge of the game, is I will take Eric Bossi and Bob Gibbons high praise of Dotson over all of you. I believe they have seen D-1 players and know a good thing when they see it. Matthew wanted to stay home, that why no High Majors were knocking at his door down. Oklahoma's head coach even called him with interest, again once they discovered he wanted to stay around Tennessee they backed off. And those of you that "have never heard of the scholarship offers," I am sorry they didn't contact you first before they called Dotson... Matthew is as good as they come in all aspects and will do nothing but make Tennessee a better ball team just by being there. And even to give some of you naysayers credit, have you ever been wrong on a kid? Naaaahhh I didn't think you had. Ignore it all Dotson and just know.. "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol"... the papers are signed and there is nothing that can change that!

Great post.

That is the kinda post that should come out of this topic. I forgot to mention the interest from Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson in my last few posts. I think you hit it right on the head saying that Bossi and Gibbons probably know what they are talking about.

And also how can anybody knock on Matt for signing with as SEC team. The reason he is so special is because he never does the bare minimum. He will work his butt of to be an important factor in trying to bring Tennessee towards the top. I bet every person on this board would have done the same thing if a team like UT had offered them and if they say they wouldnt they are lying.

Great Post i say again.

Coach, you never said who the kid was that veercoach was talkin about. I remember seeing him play this summer as well. He was about 6'4-6'5 and played inside-out. He was a very tough match up. what year is he because he has some good skills.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
