sorry folks, gomab is right on about mathew. been watching him off and on for 5 years against various levels of competetion, the recruiting services have him pegged correctly at mid to low d1.

he has really good offensive skills and will be able to contriubute junior and senior year as role player, not an impact player that UT needs. a hard worker and good person indeed, but does not bode well for buzz and co. to have to take chances on developing marginal high d1 talent.

hope i'm completely wrong

Dotson had a pretty solid game friday. He had something like 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assist. A very solid game but more importantley his team got a win. I know that is all Matthew is worried about. He is a great team player that just wants to see his team succed. He is action again tonight and tomorrw vs. Dickson and CPA. I can't wait to watch.

Why do some of you have to start out "dawg"ing the bashing and then finish your statement "But I don't think he is D-1 material"  All I have to say is to all you "professional scouts" out there that evidently should be working at a High Major recruiting with all your vast knowledge of the game, is I will take Eric Bossi and Bob Gibbons high praise of Dotson over all of you.  I believe they have seen  D-1 players and know a good thing when they see it.  Matthew wanted to stay home, that why no High Majors were knocking at his door down.  Oklahoma's head coach even called him with interest, again once they discovered he wanted to stay around Tennessee they backed off. And those of you that "have never heard of the scholarship offers," I am sorry they didn't contact you first before they called Dotson... Matthew is as good as they come in all aspects and will do nothing but make Tennessee a better ball team just by being there.  And even to give some of you naysayers credit, have you ever been wrong on a kid?  Naaaahhh  I didn't think you had.  Ignore it all Dotson and just know..  "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol"... the papers are signed and there is nothing that can change that!

I agree totally with moose3542 nobody has bashed Dotson they have just stated their opinion on him.  I think with Dotson's hard work ethic he'll be just fine at the D-1 level.  He needs to put on about 30 pounds and just be ready to bang heads with all of the SEC talent.  It'll be a major challenge for him but all true players of the game love this kind of challenge.  For the people that are bringing up Boomer Herndon and how this could be another Herndon ordeal your wrong.  You can't compare Herndon and Dotson.  The two are totally different players and Herndon played in A while Dotson has been playing in AAA.  I played in both, AAA is a tottally different game compared to A.  With that said good luck to you Matthew and don't start thinking ahead to Tennessee you still have a lot to play for in your Senior year at Hickman County.

I think Matthew has been trying to gain weight since he was eight...

Yeah Holly, Yale was looking at Matthew too. I think that people shouldn't put Matthew down for getting into UT. He worked hard for it, so people should congratulate him instead of saying he's not any good or not good enough to play. If he wasen't good enough, they wouldn't have accepted him.

Congratulations Matthew from Giles County. People can get on here and say what they want but don't pay them any attention! If all these so called GURU'S are all that great then how in the world does a DII player make it in the NBA "Scottie Pippen" who if I'm correct walked on at Arkansas State after being a trainer his freshman year! Now thats a guy who was not even good enough for DII. It's also funny how these so called GURU'S get on here and talk down about a kid when they know talent so well that they should be coaching DI ball. After all they know so much they would never make a mistake offering a ship to a DII kid. So the next time someone tells you your not DI material just remember there not recruiting for any major DI school!

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
