Is Ooltewah going to be tougher than they were last year??????? I just don't see them improving they had a good year last year.

Time to state the facts:

Will Ooltewah be a stronger, tougher team than last year?

It will be quite tough to live up to the expectations of last year's squad. As mentioned before on this thread, it will be hard to replace the leadership brought the Owls by such players as Moten, Miller, and Newsome (there are plenty more, no doubt). However, the same mentality that first year coach Ron Baker engraved in their minds still remains.

Can Ooltewah ride on the shoulder's of Courtney White?

It is no doubt that White is the outspoken leader of this team and will be expected to step up at all times. He is also the perfect player to build this team around. Ooltewah's got some fireplug players in seniors Brandon Brown and Chris Foster, and can be a threat at any point in time. It has gone un-noticed that Ooltewah has some depth down low in Curtis Porter and Will Westbrook. If these players step up when called upon, expect this team to put some points on the board.

Can the Owls replace the sharp shooters?

Ooltewah had some great outside shooters last year, no need to mention their names again. Junior Wes Murray will look to make a name for himself this year as he will establish himself as one of the best shooters in the area. Foster and Brown can also be dominant forces from the outside. What I think will be the key factor for the Owls is if White will be allowed to show off his skills from the outside. If so, and with Porter down low grabbing boards, the Owls will have a successful year.

wonderful post owlsbaseball...

about soddy's gym

baseball is right: the gym is better by who plays in it. advantage ooltewah as soddy had a spiraling downlfall of a season last year. personally, i havent seen soddy's gym, but ooltewah's would be tough to beat. i'll see at the hixson soddy game. love the air conditioning at "the new barn"

about ooltewah improving

seriously bush, think for a second!! they finished 2nd at district and had a strong team, looks to be about the same this year. the team that poses the "improving" question would be you guys (soddy). when you finish dead last the only place you can go is up.

props to owlsbaseball... wonderful post and great analysis. would be a synopsis of what i've been thinking about ooltewah this season. white's dominant presence with a threat of murray and foster and the rest outside. porter will only help. again, wonderful post and in the preseason so far... ooltewah looks like the threat in their district. sorry soddy, not this year!

since this is a thread about the district... what does central and red bank look like. no one has said anything about those two teams. mnewballer, i know that you would know who finished better in the district. after the season what were the district rankings and what were they after the district tournament last year. i know brainerd won, ooltewah was second, and soddy was last, but how did red bank and central fare in the season and post-season? what is the outlook for both teams this year?

last year the regular season ended brainerd ooltewah central red bank soddy, and the tournament ended exactly the same, really i feel this district is wide open except for brainerd being at the top, it could get really interesting i have no idea how it will finish, have to see how the teams are performing near the end of the year...these games in november dont prove anything, its how you play in february...and notre dame will be tougher than some ooltewah fans think, their football players are back now, lebron caffey and company will come ready to play

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
