I really think the Cardinals options - from their point of view - are to either sign Larkin and use Luna at second or go with Luna at short and sign a secondbaseman.

i like the Larkin idea, because i think he still has a decent year left in him and it would prolly do him good to go to another team!

Cards have a good enough lineup to score runs and win games. With their 3-4-5-6 guys, the rest of the lineup can be a "Your Name Here" and the team would still score runs. ... New SS just adds to the lineup b/c of his leadoff abilities. ..... A stud No. 1 is what the Cards need. Hopefully, Mulder is that man. ..... As far as Morris, I just think he's a quitter. He just seems to fade after the All-Star break. But, for the Cards, he can win games at No. 3, 4 or even 5. ..... Woody had to go. Heck, he's 85 years old. Appreciate what he did for the team, though. Tough and Gutsy. .... Matheny's gonna be missed. Cards are pretty well set on defense, and since the small-ball days are gone (for now), a basestealer killer is not really necessary, but his control of the game and the staff will be missed.

Got enough now to make playoffs. Still think they need more SP to win it all. Would like to see a world championship, been a long time since 82.

Mulder is a number one. He had a tough end of the season in 2004, but all of the A's pitching staff did. A good bit of that was due to their unreliable bullpen.

Ankiel coming back would be great, but I think we're looking at Ricky coming out of the bullpen for 2005 and maybe into the starting rotation in 2006. That's the same approach they took to Morris after the same surgery.

    • Yes region 1 is extremely weak but a # 5 seed out of region 2 has no business in the playoffs either.
    • They've had some great talent over the years. They usually don't whip no one but can be tough to stop on offence.
    • Could be a lot of reason from what I’ve seen so far.  The lights wouldn’t turn on at Smyrna last night and had to move games to Blackman could be a reason or maybe he is talking about how on some of the games on NFHS network the camera placement was absolutely asinine. ( had a camera set up right in front of a net and couldn’t see crap)
    • If Gordonsville can manage getting through these next 2 games without using him it will be ideal. ER was the last team to not have to pitch their #1 till the state championship i believe. Worked out well for them but they also had one of the best 1A staffs of all time that year. Only allowed one run the whole tournament and it was in the 7th inning.
    • And he’s not even their #1. Lights out performance. Gordonsville is in the drivers seat with their #1 arm available throughout the tournament.
