i was just gonna say about kent smith he is a very good coach . us getting close but not winning the whole thing  might or might not be hes fault. But you will not find better all around people than you will find on the Bradley basketball teams over the years.

I agree with him being a descent coach, but to say he is the best in the state is crazy. And I totally agree that you will not find better all around people than you will find on the Bradley basketball teams over the years......that's one of the main reasons they have won so much. When you get well rounded kids that have talent that equals winning with or without Kent Smith.

The man lost eight players from his state team. EIGHT!!!!!! He lost two all-state players, and only has two players back with any quality time at all last year. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year. It WAS a rebuilding year------ this summer. He took a group of inexperienced players and is now sitting with only one loss. NOBODY expected them to be where they are so quickly. How can you even question Smith's ability to coach? Maybe he should have won the state last year, maybe not! How many of you who are bashing him would love to say that you played in the state 3 years, and was state-runners up once, won the prestigious Arby's Classic, and went 100-10. Yes, he had good players, but how do you think they got that good? Trust me, Bradley has faced many, many teams with more talent than they have had, but came out on top. In the state semifinals two years ago, they played a team much more athletic, but not very disciplined... Again, coaching. I certainly don't agree or understand some of the things he does, but I would have to say that he is THE BEST coach in the state. Talk about talent, McMinn had JUAN, the best player in the district according to Buzz, and McMinn never beat Bradley in his years. It will be close for the first half(it always is), but Bradley will break away and win by close to 20.

Yes, they lost eight players off last years team....BUT return 2 of their top 5 in Yarrish Hammonds and Wes Suiter (who are 2 of the best in the district and area), not to mention transfer Wes Adams (McMinn Central) who would start for any other team in the district and 6'9 Dodd (Chattanooga Central) who would also start for any other team in the district. Let's not even mention Oglesvy (by the way who transfered last year and would have started for most teams last year as a freshemen) who is probably the best guard/scorer in this area. How can you say they are inexperienced? Any of Bradley's starters this year would start for any other team in this area. To mention Juan at McMinn is crazy.....he never had one player around him in 4 years that was better than average....Bradley shouldn't have lost to them. Would you agree with any of this tnwareagle? By the way, the rumors say that this coach your so eager to defend is not going to retire you son's jersey... is this true????????????

Dodd could not start for any team in the district. He couldnt start for Cleveland.

BCBall, that rumor is true(only one of the two---go figure that one.. A decision that most people don't understand.......) But, despite that, I respect his coaching. I am not defending him, only saying that every time it looks like Bradley is losing a lot, they remain good. Kent is an excellent coach, and yes, he gets transfers, but because he has such a great program that everyone wants to play for. When I said they were "inexperienced," I meant that only one of the five was a starter last year. Two years ago, they were left with only Justin and Kellen from the previous year. The other players had NO minutes. NONE! Still they went to the state finals. Though my son may not understand the "decision", he still will not let anyone say anthing negative about Coach. He is his idol, and that says a lot. but He can look past that and admire and love him. He has been a good coach and a good role model for my son and for many others. That, along with the success on the court, is what makes me say he is the best coach.

Good post Tnwareagle! I agree with your thoughts about Coach Smith. How many other, if any, coaches could have taken a team that lost 8 players and start out 14-1? None in this state that I am aware of. By the way, 6 or those 8 are playing on college scholarships. If he isn't the best coach in the state, then I would like to know who is with the stats to back up your choice. Not bad to be 14-1 with road wins at Oak Ridge and Cumberland County which are never easy no matter what kind of year they are having. Then 2 wins at Oak Ridge in the Oak Ridge Classic including defeating a very much larger and athletic Westlake team out of Georgia. Which according to the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation is still unbeaten!?!?!? Guess they don't count 'em in Georgia if you lose 'em out of state! Actually the Bears could have been unbeaten if they had'nt lost a late lead in Huntsville. But they are still showing some growing pains trying to mesh a new starting five. My bet is by the end of the year they'll be ready for tournament play.

P.S. Football season is over! Change your signature line back! Auburn didn't get cheated out of anything because they didn't deserve to be named champions and I don't think they want to tangle with the men of Troy!

Kent is a good coach no doubt, yes he has had talent, most of his players are good people, some are a little older than their competion, yes they have had to "rebuild" twice in the last 3 years, but remember the players he is rebuilding with get to practice with the same players that went to the state. Just like Bradleys wrestling room that is a big advantage. Best coaching job he has done in my opinion was when he lost a close game to Cleveland the year they won the state.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
