What about Marshall Co? Didn't they come in 2nd in the state and are returning most of their players?

Marshall Co. is a good team, and I believe they are one of the underestimated teams, just like Walker Valley. Walker Valley should be a strong team: gaining new freshmen, and not losing any seniors. Plus I hear that they have a tough schedule, including some of the state's top competitors. This should help prepare them for their road to State tournament!

I don't think anyone is overlooking Walker Valley. To tell the truth, they may be getting tired of Walker Valley this and Walker Valley that.

Like it's already been said, there are approximately 300 more students than the break point for AA at WV just like another East TN school, Lenoir City, but WV sure does like to toot their own horn for some reason.

Everyone seems to over look East Tennesse Teams,In District 3 Region 2 you always have Gibbs and this year out of that District Seymour will be very strong. All you heard last year was David Lipscomp and a East TN team went to Mississippi and won the AA State. Not saying a E.TN. team will win it just don't over look them.

Watched Walker Valley play in a High School fall league in Knoxville and they won it, I think they just lost 1 game. Looked like all of WV players play summer ball for Frost Falcons.

Dont forget Pigeon Forge in D2 Region 1, they won the district last year behind pitching from Julie Poston (tournament mvp) and sticks from Hazelbaker,Mccarter, and Oliver, all of which are returning. If I'm not mistaken they beat Seymour twice and rutledge twice, dont leave out poor little Pigeon Forge. They are returning all of their starters and picked up a couple of healthy hitting freshman.

Some of you are killing me. Antwan, are you ever going to get over the student enrollment at Walker Valley. Honestly, how many times to you have to torment yourself over it. When the school opened 3 1/2 years ago, the number of students was under 800. People in our town didn't know if WVHS would ever grow very much because people here are so crazy about Bradley and Cleveland. Fortunately, WVHS has a wonderful principal and a great school atmosphere and the students in town started coming. You won't have to worry about it next year because they will be in 3A. Better start being creative so that you will have some excuse for next year when Notre Dame, Boyd Buchanan and Goodpasture move up to 2A. Obviously the extra students didn't help WVHS last year when they only had eleven players on the team. IF you had read TNT's post, it asked for scouting reports on 2A teams. Eleven posts were made before Walker Valley was even mentioned and even then no one was bragging. By the way, your Smith county team defeated WV during the Athens Tournament last year.

KevB1990, "Toot their own horn"????????????? Last year people were very quick to tell WV that they would get beat by East Ridge in the Region Championship game and even more people chimed in to say that they would get beat by Greenbrier in the Sectionals.

There are three high schools in the Bradley/Cleveland area. The rec league is trying but it is pretty much a joke. The only good fields in town for fastpitch games are at the three high schools. This is and always will be a basketball town. Soccer is growing at a much faster rate than fastpitch also.

Let them enjoy their moment. They were the first team in this area to make it to the State Tournament in Softball ever. They did it with 11 players and no seniors. They made it on their third year even having a team. Not too bad, no matter how many students go to school there.

I guess I'll "get over it" next year when WV moves up where they belong. New or not...it's not fair to have twice the enrollment of most AA schools. The system is flawed to let this happen. Tormented...nah...just don't like to see a school get such an advantage. Excuse...what excuse...as you said we have beat WV in every sport we have played so far.

AA in East TN will be VERY interesting this year. Defending state champion Lenior City should be down slightly this year with the departure of Tommie Hicks...but don't count them out. Pitching will hurt them...but they still have UT signed Sarah Vaughn, who is FAR AND AWAY the best offensive weapon in the state.

District 3 will be tight. Perennial power Gibbs will always be in the race as long as Mitchell is coaching. Last year was the first year in 15+ years Gibbs did not travel to state, and they do have a very good freshman pitcher in Thomas contributing this year, but this district is not the same pushover it always was. Alcoa....well in one word HOLIFIELD. Although Alcoa has made great strides over the past couple of years, Holifield is the key to this team. This kid makes the best offensive teams squirm...at 62+mph, when she is on...she is overpowering. Seymour stands to have their best year ever this year, senior leadership, new offensive power, returning strong pitching from sophmore Monday....they are my favorite for District 3 (oh and by the way maniakjp, Seymour split with Pigeon Forge, winning at home in a rout and losing away without Monday on the mound).

I agree with TNT, Walker Valley was impressive in the fall. Bain is great pitching and they have offense to boot. Don't know much about middle-west TN but it could easily be another E.TN State championship year.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
