I wanted to say something about the top preferences you listed ... I really should have worded that a bit different, because of course I have not talked to every single football fan in Oak Ridge about this.

It was pretty much a feel from several that I have spoken with. To be honest, if I was going to rank them as those conversations go, Gray would be first and Rankin wouldn't even be in the top five. I suppose I fell into the "Rankin Rumor" trap and felt the need to let people know he has not even applied for the job.

And the 20 applications, the exact quote I got from AD Carringer was "roughly 20," which tells me there are are somewhere between 18 and 22 ... but who knows.

Pretty informative article on the OakRidger site this afternoon related to the search.  OR has received 20 applications so far from a total of seven states.  This includes applications from within the existing staff.

The March 2d deadline was a "soft" deadline. They will continue to take applications until the "committee" begins reviewing the applications.

Coach Gary Rankin has not applied "officially".  (Not sure what that means.)

The committee members are being kept secret.

The top preferences would be Rankin, Stevens, and Gray, according to public sentiment.

Everyone will go through the same interview process.  (It should be noted here that Spurrier is coaching at South Carolina because he was told had to interview for his old job at UF.)

You may want to read the article but you have to register first.

Not my preferences...I was just trying to recap the article a little for those that didn't want to register. Of course, my preference is for Rankin to stay right where he is...and it looks like that is going to happen. I also am not going to copy and paste the article because it is copyrighted material.

There will be a lot of interest until this is settled since it is one of the best jobs in the state. The paper also made it sound like this may be a pretty long process...

The AD is also Vice Principle and is doing his job and the job of Principle as the Principle is leaving Oak RIdge also. With the Cats being in the BBall tournament things are busy for him. But nothing is being said from anybody about the new coach except who they want or don't want. Nothing offical from anybody in authority.
