Walker Valley's 15 game winning streak ends

Recommended Posts

Walker Valley(24-4) lost its first game in 15 games, first home loss of the season. The Lady Mustang haven't lost to a AA team all year, doesn't look like they will for at least 2 more weeks, with only one regular season game left. Cleveland(19-8) have started a winning streak of their own, since that 66-50 loss at Cumberland Co.(23-4). The Lady Raiders came out with a 8-0 run, and the lead never went under 6 points. Both teams were in alot of foul trouble, with Suzanne Morris and Alyson Butler fouling out. Suzanne Morris got a fouled called on her, then the technical right after, and she was done. Alyson Butler fouled out late in the game, when WV had to foul. Great game to watch, got a little sloppy in the 4th quarter. Good Luck to both teams in the district and region tournies.

Actually it was sloppy the whole game. Neither team played very well. Walker Valley missed a ton of free throws and several layups that would have made the game close. Both teams had better bring their A games the rest of the year or teams won't go as far as they hope. With that said, both are capable of making it to Murfreesboro, but not with performances like last night.

If you call looking good hitting 4 layups because of turnovers, then I guess they did.

Cleveland's speed and quickness left WVHS in their dust most of the first half with nine steals, many of which were converted into easy layups. Jumping out to a 20-6 lead in the first period made WVHS play catch up all night. It was a loooonnnnnggggg game, made that way by 46 fouls called, 29 on WVHS who had 4 girls foul out. Butler, Morris Parks and Cox. That's four starters and no team is usually gonna find a way to win when that happens.

Foul shooting was about as bad as you have ever seen. WVHS lost the game by 13 points and missed 12 free throws (6 of 18-33%). CHS was even worse making only 19 of 38 (50%). Most teams would lose that miss that many but give Cleveland credit. They absolutely killed WVHS on the boards 41 to 21.

WVHS held their own after the initial blitz by the Lady Raiders in the opening period. Both teams could go deep into the tournaments. Cleveland, if they can make teams play their up tempo game because they are not a walk-it-up, half-court offense kind of team. WVHS, if they can have success in the paint and at point. Both of these spots were glaring weaknesses last night versus CHS.

Cleveland has a very experienced, senior-laden team that has played the best competition of any team in the state and as good as anyone in the country for that matter. WVHS has a younger team but one that could have an easier path this year than last year through the sub-state to Murfreesboro in a couple of weeks.

Good luck to both squads!

AAA Walker Valley hasn't played any of the big dogs in AA yet, however they are my odds on favorite to win the silver in AA this year. But then again how could anyone pick against them they do have over 1300 students to choose from! thumb

I think that is looking good. If you are getting easy baskets against a very good team, then yes that is looking good. On the defensive side, they forced turnovers, to get them. The early run, put WV in a hole that they couldn't get out of. Good 1st quarter by Cleveland to score 21 points, and have an 11 point lead after the first period.

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
