  1. Jersey is considered to be a wrestling state, Tennessee not so much! If you assume that both states brought comparable talent based on the pool they pull from, You gotta give TN a little credit here...Right? This small, non-wrestling state is making a little noise and the state as a whole should be proud of what's happening here!

  2. Here is what I know about Tygard, His style of play is going to attract some absolute studs on the offensive side of the ball. Kids that might be super talented but in a system that has them running 3 and out 90 % of the time. The kids who can throw catch and run, want a chance to play next level. People can say colleges will find you if you are good, and while there is truth to it, that really only applies if you are playing in a system that lets you have some kind of chance at putting up stats. Second is Tygard will give offenses so many different looks and will take chances on getting the take away. You got a guy who is going to bring life into this program and an excitement that maybe hasn't been there in a while. Be patient and sit back and watch what happens.

  3. I'm thankful East Rob figured out at some point in the offseason that they were no longer in Region 4. They turned this thread into a dumpster fire for months. If these teams were in the same region last season, Fayetteville would've averaged 60 plus points a game and won it going away. Probably Cascade at 2, Cannon and Marion could flip a coin for 3 and 4. Forrest would have finished last. This year it should be a more balanced region. FC lost the house and has a tough non region road schedule. A few injuries and the wheels could come off down there. There is still talent but based on middle school success their players in these 4 classes are nowhere near the caliber of the previous 4 classes.

  4. It don’t just happens in TN. It happens in all the football rich states. Kids play football at one school and transfer to play basketball at another then back for track. They was talking about this in Texas pre covid

  6. CORRECTION: The Blount County Commission actually DID approve the funding for turf on BOTH HHS and WBHS fields way back LAST year, on 18 August 2022. The minutes of that board meeting can be found here: https://blounttn.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=M&ID=917199&GUID=06358B44-9668-4B75-9956-C8C490347EE9 (refer to Item F,1 / Resolution 22-08-001 on p. 4). It PASSED with a vote of 12 yes, 7 no, and 2 commissioners were absent. Unfortunately, the project was STALLED AND COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTED for several MONTHS by a bunch of red tape and manufactured legal nonsense related to the bidding process, which was ridiculous and entirely BOGUS (either our purchasing dept was entirely inept, or there was dirty political maneuvers by persons behind the scenes with influence and power to manipulate & control the purchasing dept, or a combo of both.) After the vote to move forward by the commission in August '22, the plan was to start the installation in Nov, as soon as football season was over. The project should have been finished by track season and graduation (which takes place at the stadium). Again, this did NOT HAPPEN, much to everyone's frustration. By April, it was painfully clear that the project would not begin, much less be finished before the end of this fiscal year (June 30). So that means, the ENTIRE PROCESS HAS TO START OVER, to be done in the NEW fiscal (starting July 1,2023). That began tonight, with 1) the school board's approval to allocate the funds from their budget again. All voted yes except for 2 of them: Fred Goins abstained (with no apparent conflict of interest, so why he didn't vote one way or another is beyond me; IMO we elect ppl to VOTE, so have the cahones to do so one way or another!) and Erica Moore who voted no. She is newly elected and was not on the board back in Aug '22. 2) Next, it will move on to the county BUDGET committee mtg (July 11). They will vote whether to recommend to county commission or not. Regardless, it will still 3) move on to the county commission (UGH! AGAIN!) and they will have to debate it in their workshop mtg (July 11) and vote to/not to put it on their actual board mtg agenda. If it makes it on the formal board agenda, THEN 4) they will vote on it (AGAIN!) during the July 20 board of commission mtg. This has been like a bad rendition of the movie, Groundhog Day. The county commission did not favor Eagleton over HHS. (At least the majority of them did not when they voted on it back in Aug '22). It is unclear as to who all is rightfully accountable for this asinine debacle, but I guarantee it was by design. Perhaps if everyone pays attention to who in county government historically nitpicks and attempts to obstruct every dang dollar the county school system spends trying to improve programs, teacher pay, athletics and academics, etc...but pretty much rubber stamps anything certain other depts ask to spend, then ya'll will figure out who the likely culprit is. Another major point for clarification: The school system is NOT/never was asking the county commission to "give" them any money. They are simply asking to spend their OWN dang money. (Required process, by state law.) Bottom line, HHS and WBHS should be playing their first home game on Hellas' patented Matrix turf (same top of the line stuff Eagleton has), but thanks to those who swing a big stick in county govt and our community who are not for schools (and do a good job of hiding it and obstructing behind the scenes), here we are almost a year later, and we are back to DAY ONE. BTW, the same players recently maneuvered to rob the schools of ten pennies in their budget allocation with recent certified tax rate adjustment. Never in the history of Blount County Schools has this happened. That's going to translate into ~6.5 million dollars. Oh, and by the way, with this delay, now the cost has gone up on the turf, just like everything else has...groceries, gas, price of housing, construction materials, transport of such, etc. Yet, Ms. Moore (the school board member who voted no) had the audacity (stupidity?) to ask why the bid came in higher. YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS CRAP UP!!

  8. This may be a little long but I will do my best to answer. To answer your question directly I think the average kid can be successful if they are willing to put in the work. Having said that they will need dedicated parents, decent partners and a very good coach. I attribute Hunters success to this. We moved to an area that had a super good coach. “Joe Kemmerer”. Hunter held back in 8th grade and a kid from NC did the same and stayed at our house most of the year. Those two along with Joe did a 3 hr private everyday, took an hour break then did a 2 hr club practice. There were times they was beaten up but they pushed through it and made huge jumps in their wrestling ability. Hunter starts HS and Randy Shelton and Atlas Fagundes gave him everything he needed and more. Got him into the best HS tournaments in the county and provided a tough room. They always gave him and others the option to leave practice early to go To club. After Joe left, ”us hammer parents” mostly Rick Jacobs recruited Nahshon Garrett to run club and Hunter made another level jump. So hard work isn’t the only answer in my opinion, you must have good coaching and dedication from the parents and kids. Most of Hunters HS schedule was as follows. Leave the house at 5am to lift before school, do HS practice, run by the house grab a quick bite then drive an house to Kingsport to practice, return home around 9pm eat do homework and repeat. Most kids aren’t willing to put that kind of Quality work in. a lot of people just quote hard work but it has to be quality hard work and Hunter was blessed to have quality coaches that cared about him. Hunter wasn’t ever naturally gifted as a wrestler. Heck his first year he got pinned almost every match. It wasn’t until he completely dedicated himself that he started having success. If you ask him today he would still say he wasn’t good enough and he has to get better. It’s his mindset that has helped him have a little bit of success in wrestling. we aren’t sure if he will start right away or not. He’s doing very good in the room and Robie told him to be ready to go straight in. I trust the coaches completely and know they will do what’s best for him and the team. I think Hunter would like to redshirt, but would also do whatever the coaches ask of him. Thanks a bunch for keeping up with my boy. Sid
