  1. I can't predict what the outcome would have been for Powell in Region 5 but Region 2 is a very strong region as well with Oak Ridge, Heritige, Farragut, Karns, Campbell Co., William Blount, Maryville, Sevier County, etc. Two of these teams were highly rated in USA Today early in the year.
  2. Man, you would think fastpace would eventually get over the loss to the Lady Panthers. If you think Powell didn't show up in the state tourney, just imagine what would have happened to your MoWest team if they would have made it to the State. Get over it.....you got beat....2006 is over. Start working on next season and we'll see how you do next year in sub state.
  3. Powell should make a run to return to the Boro for the 4th straight year as they lose (1) senior.
  4. No problem.....I get called lots of different titles these days. Are you going to the Boro tomorrow?
  5. She is getting better.....taking a different medication. HTV....Allison Butler is the young lady from Walker Valley.
  6. Finally, an intelligent observation from you. Yeah, I don't have to hide behind my user name.
  7. Parrothead14, Good to hear from you and thanks for the kind wishes. I'll pass them on to CH...I try to discourage her from getting on here this time of year especially when these types of remarks are made and they slam friends. TH
  8. Papatj, Great job messing up a congratulations thread. I guess it makes you happy to voice your opinion to slam a young lady "Erin" who had a wonderful high school career. She will be a starter at UTC for the next 3 years and will be extremely successful. If you knew anything about college basketball you would know that Chattanooga can play and beat many of the 12 SEC teams this year. Erin is playing with some really outstanding seniors. By the way, playing for a "pitiful" Alabama team in the SEC is the same. The last time I looked, Alabama plays all other 11 SEC teams. So they are competiting against the best in the country day in and day out. There are two east Tennesse girls headed to Alabama to support them in rebuilding their program. One would think a supporter of TN girls / basketball such as yourself you could provide a positive statement or refrain from ignorant remarks.
  9. May I remind you Powell 62 MW 55, Powell Sub State Champions. I hope you shut down Caitlin again next year!!!
  10. So you think you shut Hollifield down......well she scored 15 pts and had 13 rebounds and she was sick and "puked" 5 times during the game. She sat out most of the 2nd quarter in foul trouble. It was a solid team victory by the Panthers....inside / outside and solid shooting from the foul line which usually wins games. It was your home court with your tri-cities officials (all three are out of the tri-cities association). You got all the calls in the first half and we got a few calls in the second. Quit crying about the game, it's history. You have a very fine team and should be proud of their accomplishments. Wonder what the score might have been if Caitlin were well?
  11. Congratulations to the Lady Panthers for a great win tonight over a very fine Morristown West team. The Lady Panthers are headed back to the Boro for the 3rd straight year. Who would have thought in mid-season that these young ladies would put together a fine run in post season play. Congratulations to players and coaches and good luck on Thursday!!!!!!
  12. Congratulations Jackie from your friends in Powell
  13. Congratulations JP............awesome year for you at Bradley.
  14. Coach Mercer is one of the best up and coming coaches in ET. He is doing a great job this year while competing in a very tough district.
  15. Congratulations Katie from your friends in Powell! Keep working hard and hope you have a great senior year.
  16. Congratulations Brandi.....best of luck this season and your future years at MTSU.
  17. I would say that the "organization" that is involved becomes accountable and must ensure that the kids are learning and test at a satisfactory level.
  18. Quote: "The schools both public and private have highly qualified teachers who have to pass placement tests just to become teachers. I know several kids who were home schooled by parents who barely graduated from high school." Wave, You might want to take a look at the teacher requirements for a parent who is home schooling. Grades 9 through 12 require the parent to have a bachelors degree from an accredited university. Grades K through 8 require the parent to have a high school diploma or GED. See TN Legislation / Home School Law - http://tnhomeed.com/49-6-3050.html
  19. It probably would not work for some, especially home schoolers who desire to play football. However, it is an option that could be considered. Regarding the home school orgainzations, the Knoxville Ambassadors basketball teams (boys and girls) are organized with a Board of Directors, AD, rules, regulations, by-laws, etc. The Nashville teams are the benchmark and are extremely organized with tremendous support.
  20. I think the TSSAA could begin by allowing an organized home school team to apply for TSSAA membership and simply accept the team rather than deal with allowing home school kids to tryout and play at the local school where they live. Require the home school team to have an AD that would be responsible for enforcing rules, requirements, regulations, grade requirements, game scheduling, etc. Place the team in an appropriate district that is close to the area where the team is organized. Allow the team to designate a home gym/field that must meet all TSSAA requirements. If a gym/field is not available, then work with other schools in the district to schedule games. Again, this would be the responsibility of the home school AD. We are not talking about that many teams. I think there are 3 or 4 varsity home school basketball teams in Tennessee (boys and girls): (1) Knoxville, (1) Nashville, (1) Memphis. In addition, most of these areas have a junior varsity and middle school team as well. With this type of approach you don’t have to worry about recruiting, transfers, etc. If the home school kid decides to go to public school at a later time, they would simply go to the school where they live and participate under the current TSSAA rules and regulations, of which I’m not actually familiar with.
  21. All of the major cities in Tennessee have organized/competitive home school basketball teams. They play 20 plus games and typically attend the home school nationals in Oklahoma City each March. The teams are competitive and can generally play at the Class A level. The home school groups have contacted TSSAA (many times) about joining a district in the area where they are located so they can play more competitive games and provide the kids with better opportunities for recognition and scholarships. The TSSAA has always declined this request. The TSSAA could have developed a simple solution to some of these issues: allow the organized home school teams to join a district in the areas where they are located. This would work for basketball, soccer and perhaps baseball. Football is probably not possible right now but the other sports would be a good start for home schooled kids that are looking for opportunities. We home schooled our daughter until 9th grade and then placed her in public HS. She loves the school and has had the opportunity to play in the state semi finals (basketball) for the past two years. This was the right move for us but there are many families that would like to have other options for their kids. TSSAA has some options that will cause minimal problems if they will simply consider those options.
  22. Awesome Angela!!!! Congratulations!!!!
  23. Gassie is a great player and she did play the entire game. Bud played her at the perimeter during the second half of the game and occasionally during the first half but the lady panthers contested every shot and made things difficult for the entire WC team. You guys should give the lady panthers a little credit for their defensive work. They have also held some other fine teams to low scores this season: Oak Ridge 26, Campbell County 32, Oliver Springs 19, Cabrini 37 (4 overtimes).
  24. Congratulations Erin! We are very proud of you and your decision to attend Chattanooga. We will be following you over the next few years as you become part of the Lady Mocs and I know you will be a great contributor to their program.
