  1. LaFayette (No. 1 team in Ga. Class 2A) is scheduled to be there
  2. I've been just biding my time to make this pick. I've been watching and studying on these two teams for a week now. I know what they both have. I've seen the strengths and the weaknesses. These are two great teams, otherwise, they wouldn't be headed to Murfreesboro. That being said, only one team can win and that team will be South Pittsburg. Both teams have outstanding offenses and no one has really shut down either one so far this year. But since the Pirates lost to Temple last year, they have been absolutely on a mission. They pretty much rolled through the regular season, only getting tested really once against Tyner. They have been playing this season for Coach Don and themselves. They have faced the toughest path to the state championship game and not so much as blinked. You don't roll through Trousdale, Friendship, Gordonsville and Hampton like they did without being a very special team. Those scores were not flukes and in some cases those games could have been even worse. McKenzie is a good team and will put up a fight, but SP is too fast and too powerful and too focused IMO (and I don't have a dog in this hunt). South Pitt 38 - McKenzie 24
  3. Tim James has been named the new head football coach at Heritage High School in Catoosa County, Georgia, which opens its doors next fall. James played for and later coached for East Ridge. Here's a link to the story: http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?...=18900&on=1
  4. The quick prediction: Region 2-5A sweeps the first round.
  5. Just a hunch, but I think Rhea keeps this one closer a lot longer than many would believe. I don't think they will win, but Maryville certainly can't afford to look past them. Remember, Maryville got a huge scare from Brainerd last year, who by the way the Rebels will possibly meet again in round two.
  6. Should be a great game. Ooltewah is probably the most dangerous No. 4 seed in the state.
  7. I wouldn't lump Bowman into that category. Yes, he made mistakes at UNC and had to leave, but in case you haven't heard, Adarius grew up a lot, learned from his mistake and is now at Oklahoma State and is projected to be a NFL draft pick, mostly likely a first-rounder. We all in Chattanooga are very proud of him.
  8. No dog in the hunt, but Howard is one of the best conditioned teams I've seen all year and they are more tested than Central having played teams like Tyner and Brainerd. Howard has tremendous team speed and a very good defense. The Tigers win a tight one: 26-23.
  9. Phillips and Coleman are two entirely different types of quarterbacks. Phillips is more of a dual threat and Coleman is a pocket passer. I've seen Coleman make throws that some NFL quarterbacks can't make. If David Cutcliffe hand-picked Coleman out of everyone else in the country, that's good enough for me. Cut knows a thing or two about quarterbacks.
  10. What's wrong with team the best record hosting? Or is that too easy for the TSSAA?
  11. Speed can make up for a lot of things. This might be the fastest Howard team they've ever had.
  12. B.J. Coleman is the best high school quarterback I've ever seen in my 30+ years of following the sport.
  13. Thank God for the new mercy rule! This one will be close until the bus pulls in the parking lot.
  14. Krystal Kickoff Classic - Scores from Saturday night Howard 6 - Soddy Daisy 6 Central 0 - Grace 0 McMinn Co. 7 - Rhea Co. 0 David Brainerd 16 - Temple 0 Tyner 7 - Hixson 0 Notre Dame 0 - Silverdale 0
  15. I'm sure Stump has an axe to grind against Temple. That's why he and his staff spent a ton of their own money on equipment and gas - without getting paid a dime by the way - to follow Temple around the entire season to cover their state basketball championships and football games. That's why Stump had his guy put together a special DVD for their first state basketball championship. You think he did it for the money? He knew Temple people were the only ones that would buy them and the only person that made any money off of it, if any, was the production guy. Stump never took a dime from the sale of any of them. Stump doesn't get paid to do television, nor does he do it for ratings. The story is out there. Like he says, if the story is on the street, it's news. This is one of the biggest, albeit saddest stories, that Chattanooga high school sports have seen in a long time. I'm sure he would much rather be reporting on anything else and keep promoting the kids, but he's also a member of the media and has a job to do. So does Stephen Hargis and I haven't seen one thing in any of his stories that tells me he has a bias against Temple. He does an excellent job on all his stories and all he's doing now is trying to get the fact and present them in an objective manner. He has no agenda, neither does Stump.
  16. Yes, one team originally scheduled dropped out a while back so Boyd-Buchanan will play twice.
  17. $6 per person per day. Only the home side of bleachers will be used.
  18. Yes, that is correct. Also, the first game on Thursday has been pushed back to 7 pm as well.
  19. Folks, this is the new schedule for the Krystal Kickoff Classic Jamboree presented by Stump on Sports, to be played at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Aug. 16-18. Thursday, Aug. 16 6 pm - Gordon Lee vs. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 8 pm - Ridgeland vs. Dade County (These games involve teams from Georgia and will be full four-quarter games) Friday, Aug. 17 6:45 - Boyd-Buchanan vs. Cleveland 7:20 - McCallie vs. Bradley Central 7:55 - Boyd-Buchanan vs. East Ridge 8:30 - Walker Valley vs. Brainerd 9:05 - Red Bank vs. Baylor Saturday, Aug. 18 6:15 - Howard vs. Soddy-Daisy 6:50 - Chatt. Central vs. Grace Baptist 7:20 - McMinn County vs. Rhea County 8:00 - Temple vs. David Brainerd 8:35 - Tyner vs. Hixson 9:10 - Notre Dame vs. Silverdale Baptist
  20. It could be that it costs less to operate the stadium with just one side open. Only one set of concessions and less people and time it will take to clean up the stands, concourses and bathrooms. Just a thought. Besides, Finley's home side is plenty big enough to hold fans from Silverdale and whomever they play with plenty of room between them. Just block off a section in the middle.
  21. McMinn County will be playing in the Chattanooga jamboree. That has been confirmed.
  22. I was told Silverdale scored 14 TDs to Temple's 1. I don't have any details. Just passing on what I heard.
