There was nothing dumb about my statement. I was making reference to the fact that Centennial's opponents during the 2nd half of their season had similar enrollments to Centennial. Therefore, that's where they should have been more competitive. But they weren't, they quit before the season was over. They played up to 6A during the first half of the season but had opponents of similar size during the second half. I meant no disrespect to the teams that Centennial played during the second half of the season... they obviously were very successful... Columbia in particular. But Centennial should have been much more competitive in those games and they clearly weren't... they had already stopped playing hard. That's the point I was trying to make.

Whoever the candidates are, they might want to ask some tough questions. There are internal issues concerning the offseason weights and conditioning program, funding, etc. The principal definitely wants to make improvements across the board but there are others involved with decision-making who may not be qualified or experienced enough to contribute on that front. From the stands, the most distressing thing to witness last season was the fact that the team quit and laid down during the second half of the season... the stretch of the schedule that they could actually win some games and make the playoffs. Even the 1-9 team two years ago played hard to the very end. It would appear to be an uphill battle. Good luck to Centennial and the rest of the county's schools in finding new head coaches.

With this statement coming from an old coach, I totally understand where you are coming from. However, these aren't professionals, they are high school kids who are very emotional because of their age. That's why we see so many upsets on Saturdays the weeks following an emotional win or loss.

You won't get very much smack talk from our end. Smyrna has tremendous talent on both sides of the ball. Their LBs in particular are extremely talented. Centennial has to rebound from an emotional loss last week, cut down on mistakes, and continue to improve. They give great effort every time out and this Friday should be no different. I just hope that the Cougars have something left in the tank after last week.

In preseason, they ran the 3-3 stack with base cover 3 and lots of blitzing from the outside linebackers.

A train? 3 point victory for the Rebels is not exactly a train. A caboose maybe... Anyway, hard fought game... with the difference being too many mistakes by the Cougars and the Rebels capitalizing on them. Our hats are off to Franklin, they are a very disciplined and well-coached team. We wish them good luck on their season. Centennial can't continue to make errors against quality opponents and expect to overcome them. Playing with heart and pride can only take you so far. But I for one am extremely proud of the effort put forth by the Cougars tonight. They have improved tremendously from week zero... especially on offense. We have to put this one behind us and continue to get better. Proud to be a Cougar fan.

I love this topic... most times are a tenth to two-tenths faster than reality because they are hand-timed by most coaches... human error, plus most schools don't have the funds for electronic timing equipment. The 40 is just a measurement for comparison... it has zero application in regards to football... the best measure of true speed and athleticism is the pro shuttle drill. The person that started this thread stated that only one tight end at the combine broke 5.5 seconds??? I watched that whole group of tight ends run the 40 and I didn't see a single one run slower than 5.1. The guy who ran in the 4.4s was only 226 lbs and looked like a RB.

What's the point in talking about Centennial? Everyone on this thread has already chalked up a "W" for the Rebels... However, it is fun listening to people argue about offensive balance, strategy, etc. when their team is 2-0

I'm not sure what Fort Campbell has coming back after winning the last two AA state championships in Kentucky... but they defeated Newport Central Catholic both times to do it... Watching both games, CPA reminds me of that team... both offensive scheme and athletes. CPA will definitely see a level of team speed from Fort Campbell that they may not be used to. With that being said, CPA is a tough matchup for anybody because of their athletes, discipline, and schemes that they use. I would think this would be a toss up... but without the Mason kid from last year, I believe Fort Campbell will match up well. Besides Oakland and Ensworth, this may be the best game in Week 0 to watch. Wishing safe travel for CPA and good luck to both teams.

Recap of the scrimmage between Portland and Centennial last night... Zero scores between the ones for the both sides Portland's ones scored late TD against Centennial's second D Several nice drives by both offenses, but neither was able to punch it in I was impressed with the Portland Panthers. They were well-coached, tough, and came off the ball hard. The FB and TB are very good players. In my opinion, they should stick with the I formation stuff... it fits their personnel. Centennial has a lot improving to do... but they are very young, especially on offense. The Cougars have a lot of talent, but need to keep improving over the summer and fall camp if they want to compete with the Wilco schools and Hillsboro. Good luck Portland.

Fairview lost to Page in week zero... at the half, Fairview was leading 16-0 (or something close to it) and wound up losing 30-16... Page had a very good football team last year but Fairview blew that game... don't mistake Page's superior region for Fairview's lack of finishing their opponent. You were just comparing scores, weren't you? Fairview was a much-improved football team that had obviously gotten on a roll leading up to their game with Camden... The Lions have established an excellent football tradition in a very short period of time... did you even see them play last year?

Camden would have beaten every team in the old region 5-3A except for Giles and Lipscomb. Have seen all of them play... they would have been 3rd without a doubt.

Does anyone know what sort of offense Coach Moreno prefers? Or will he just hand it over to a coordinator?
