  1. Rockwood actually had more yards than Meigs, but the Tigers from Roane County made a lot of mistakes. They threw a pair of pick sixes as well as throwing another pick at their own 30. On offense, RW turned it over on downs at the 1 and 10 as well fumbling it on the MC 23 if I remember correctly. Meigs, however, was very impressive. They took away RW's ground game and they had one guy on offense that was a stud. When that game was over, I couldn't figure out how GB beat them so bad unless they played like RW that night.
  2. The bottom line for Kingston is you can't turn the ball over against a good team and win. Two turnovers inside the GCA 25 and then the Pick 6 at the end sealed the deal. All-in-all a good start for the Jackets.
  3. Rockwood had better hang on to the football if they want to win. In their first scrimmage at Cookeville, they had a lot of yards, but a lot of turnovers. In scrimmage number two against Sunbright, no turnovers and scored on every possession. In their last scrimmage against Scott, it was a lot like scrimmage number one, lots of yards and lots of turnovers. Had another turnover in the jamboree. I'm saying they'll have their stick-em on Friday night and I'm expecting a dandy of a game.
  4. Good luck to Grace and Meigs on Saturday.
  5. I thought both defenses were really well prepared. OS did a great job of taking away penetration, which in turn didn't give a lot of open looks off passes to the perimeter. Meigs shoots really well, but there like everyone else in their percentage will go down when they have to rush their shots. It helps that OS is really quick out front and they can recover so well. I also thought Meigs was really prepared in the way they collapsed on the twins. Their girls really knew the scouting report of which girls to sag off and which girls to close out on in a hurry. Pretty much every team has good scouting reports, but it's rare to see teams execute one so well throughout the game. I'm one of those guys that enjoys watching good defense more than good offense and that's why I loved watching those two get after each other last night. I do think Wednesday's game will see more offense. Hensley is good off the bounce and has great vision, which will keep Meigs's defense honest. It doesn't hurt that Grace has more size inside as well and has some good spot-up shooters. I also think Meigs will have more open looks against Grace simply due to the fact that there isn't many teams that move as well on the perimeter as OS. I could see the game going either way, like both games last night.
  6. The Meigs/Oliver Springs game tonight was a defensive clinic by both teams. OS held Meigs to 33 points in regulation, but the Lady Tigers played great Df their own and gutted out a 41-36 decision in OT. Free throws ultimately decided the outcome with Meigs making 21-29 compared to OS hitting 13-22. OS made just 4 of 8 in the final 3:27 of regulation while Meigs was 4-4 to close out regulation.
  7. It sounds like Monterey got hosed as well. Preparing for one team and then finding out on game day you have to play someone else. Especially tough if Pickett and Jackson have differing styles.
  8. That's why I love these tournaments in Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. There might be a couple of lopsided games on the first day, but after that they're all pretty close. It sounds like Oliver Springs' girls and Rockwood's boys both have a chance, but will have to play very well.
  9. I know Grace beat Rockwood 41-40 and I believe Wartburg lost in OT. I know Oneida's boys and girls lost tonight, but were the games close?
  10. I'd rate them 1/2 Grace/Meigs County 3/4 Oneida/Jellico right now, but there is a lot of balance down here with District 3-A being a little stronger top to bottom.
  11. I heard that TSSAA got their information backwards as far as who left the sideline. They originally fined Coalfield thinking it was their players that left the sidelines. I don't think they actually looked at the film. However, they realized their mistake and did the right thing by taking away the fine they levied against Coalfield.
  12. This year has the feel that a lot of tiebreakers might be needed at the end of the season.
  13. West first and 10 on own 7 with 3:50 left
  14. I'm not sure about that pass interference call.
  15. Oakdale's Maverick Smith scored 31 in his first game against Sweetwater.
  16. I think the key for Midway is that Lyle is 100%. They pulled out a couple wins this season when they tried to rest him, but the kid is a playmaker and was at his best last week.
  17. There is actually a scenario out there where OS could lose, Goodpasture could win and the Bobcats could still make it. They would need McEwen to lose, MTCS to lose, Fayetteville to lose, and Jackson County to win. That could move OS past MTCS in the standings, and that wold leave MTCS as the odd man out. However, I don't think McEwen will lose, MTCS is a toss-up so the Bobcats better just win and not need about five things to fall their way.
  18. Rockwood just played their brand of football. 56 rushes for 234 yards then throw in 7-10 passing for 106 yards. They kept Greenback's offense off the field. Tigers ran 66 plays to 46 for Greenback. Rockwood also had one drive lasting 16 plays and covering 96 yards. Tigers also tackled well in space.
  19. I am glad the bad call didn't keep Rockwood from winning or I would have been writing a story about a dead back judge right now.
  20. http://www.roanecounty.com/content/rockwood-28-greenback-21 I think on the second picture of the slideshow you can see the Rockwood player with both hands on the ball and the Greenback player has his hands on Rockwood players hands, but not on the football. These two photos of the pick were courtesy of Sammie Dunlap. The second pic it also appears that the Greenback player only has one hand on the ball while the Rockwood kid has both.

  22. Baylor and McCallie might be the only one still playing that started before Harriman/Rockwood, but they had something like a 30 years layoff.
  23. One thing that helps a gate more than anything is winning so if Harriman can take a 2-0 record into next week against Rockwood then all of Harriman might show up. But as far as the game this week, how many times has would you say it's Sunbright's speed and big play ability vs. Harriman's size up front?
