COVID-19 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON
GREENWAVE84EG replied to BoardHater71's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
As I've already said it might be a year or two or longer before there's some sort of control on this thing. Heck, maybe never. Are we willing to go several years before we play sports, and everything else to return completely? We might need to come to grips with this and realize our new norm possibly includes this virus, and others that might pop up. In other words, we need to learn to live with it, since it's probably not going away soon. -
COVID-19 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON

Thanks! With the way this year has been we certainly need things to get back to normal, or as close to it as possible. Our kids need to be back in school, they need the activities that come along with that, and our communities need high school sports, they have a way of holding us together, especially football. -

We're going to have to learn to live with this thing, I don't think it's going away anytime soon. Surely our society realizes that we can't go on for months and even years with things closed or cancelled. We hear about vaccines, but it may take years to develop one that's effective enough to have confidence in it. Even then, we see how vaccines work with the flu every year. With that being said, there are roughly 10,000 active cases currently in the entire state, out of 7 million citizens, if I read the numbers correctly. That's about .14%. I feel for those that have had it, I would most likely feel differently if I was in that number, but that is a very small percentage to just keep taking things away. -
Yes, 9 teams, so there'll be 16 district games. Also with an odd number of teams there'll be one team off every district night, and that's already caused some scheduling issues.

Hendersonville vs Cookville Could be the toughest 4/1 matchup
GREENWAVE84EG replied to Blaze45's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Gallatin went 5-0 against Region 4 6A, so they would've won it this year. -
Fayetteville to forfeit 6 wins
GREENWAVE84EG replied to MidTennFootball's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
What about the 5th place team, which looks to be Richland, who would jump to 4th if the appeal is denied? That's definitely a strange spot to be in, waiting to play or not to play. -
This is what is printed at the bottom of the bracket: All times are local time. In the first and second rounds the higher seeded team shall be the host school. In the third round and semifinals in even-numbered years the bottom team in each bracket shall be the host team. If two teams from the same region meet in the third round, the team seeded higher in the region standings shall host. According to this, Friday night's winner would be on the road in the quarterfinal (bottom is on the road in odd years) if ANY Region 5 team is the opponent. Seeding only comes into play if two teams from the same region meet in the quarterfinal. That's the way I read that anyway.

Bye Week Talk: How Good is Gallatin?
GREENWAVE84EG replied to Gtowner's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I started seeing changes from the very moment Coach Watson was officially announced, he and the great staff he assembled have absolutely changed the culture, the air surrounding this football team is amazingly different. It built through spring and summer up to now, they have these kids fully buying in, fully believing in themselves in what they're preaching and teaching. I started telling people from the very start they were going to see a different football team this year, and look where they are, undefeated with 5 shutouts. I don't know about these next two games, and I don't know about the playoffs, but I like our chances, because I have personally seen what this team is about, what it's made of, what it's built on. I felt all along that Gallatin football was headed in the right direction, and it is, I'm as excited as ever to see how this thing winds up this year, and the bright future that's no doubt ahead. -
Glencliff reported to be ending football this season
GREENWAVE84EG replied to nrgrizzlies's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Chris Harris from Channel 4 is reporting this morning that Glencliff will play at Hillwood Friday night, so they're not done just yet. -

The Tennessean may have been a bit premature in reporting this. According to Chris Harris from Channel 4, the Glencliff head coach is saying nothing is final just yet, options are being discussed and meetings are scheduled for tomorrow. -
The polls went from 18 voters to 17 this week, and evidently that 18th voter is the one that's been giving Gallatin the 1st place vote. What's interesting is Gallatin has been just outside the top 10 with that vote, and leaps into it without it, replacing a team that didn't lose, Page.

Gallatin (5-0) @ Wilson Central (4-1)
GREENWAVE84EG replied to Gtowner's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I'm with you GWave1. I'm sure Henry County is very good, and I'm sure Beech is very good, but there are other very good teams out there, and I know Gallatin is one of them, because I have seen them, up close and in person. They have beaten 3 good teams in Lebanon, Mt Juliet and Hillsboro, and the other 2 wins over not so good. Every team good bad or ugly plays some good teams, and some bad teams, that's the nature of high school football. Our next game is a 4-1 Wilson Central team who appears to be good also, we just need to keep winning and the rest will take care of itself. Just because my team is good and I want to toot my horn a little doesn't give me any reason to hate on another team. -
I think I'm right on this, you get 10 points for a 1st place vote, 9 points for 2nd, and so on to 1 point for 10th. As an example, Knox Central got 16 1st place votes for 160 points, so they got 2 2nd place votes for 18 to get their 178. Gallatin got 1 1st place vote, so 10 of their 31 points came from that one voter, while the other 21 came from the remaining 17 voters. It's interesting that one voter has them the best in 5A, while most of the others have then way down the line.

When the TSSAA reclassed for 2017-2020, Gallatin was put in Region 6 5A with Beech, Glencliff, Hillsboro, Hillwood and Hunters Lane, it's as simple as that. We've never scheduled Hillwood outside of it being a region game. Those 5 games we have to play, then for the 5 non-region all are one class up in 6A, 2 in county and the other 3 one county over. We scheduled those because typically they field very competitive teams year in and year out, plus they bring great crowds, which helps offset some of the region schools that don't.

The trending theme from most outside of Gallatin seems to be that the Wave can't be very good, therefore anybody they beat can't be very good.

Gallatin at Columbia May 3 Gallatin at Blackman May 10

Hendersonville is actually the 18th, and the off week is the 11th. Fall break is Oct 7-11, so they bumped Hendersonville a week later, I just verified that with our AD.
-
Head coach and both coordinators are in place, all great hires. The excitement builds!
-
I cannot and will not divulge any names, but I will without hesitation say Gallatin will have a strong head coach in place very soon.
-
I'm very confident there is at least one, and maybe more, surprise candidates that most have not thought of, we'll see. There has been no offer made, but that could happen by the end of the week, just sit tight.
-
Interviews are scheduled to be complete by Tuesday, so an announcement could come next week, but Christmas break starts Thursday afternoon, so it would be most likely to happen the first of the year.
-
Very true, I've had numerous conversations with them and no names have been mentioned, only descriptions of the final group as a whole, and all of them have had very successful head coaching careers. Gallatin will have a very good head coach in place soon, that's for certain.

I'm 99.9% sure there were no QB Club members involved 7 years ago, and I'm even more confident there are none this go around. Just sit tight, relax, let them do this, and see what home run lands there.
