  1. If you're assessing the future talent level at McNairy according to which middle school won county you're thinking on the wrong level. If they hire the right coach he will pull kids from EVERY middle school in the county, as well as a few from surrounding counties and one or two from Mississippi. "Pay isn't going to change" is also a rather flat statement that very well could change...without doing any research, a good guess would be 36-40 mil operating budget for the Dept. of Ed... adding ten to twelve thousand each at two schools for head coaches and another six or eight for assistants wouldn't move the needle for the overall budget. It's simply a question of "how much does it matter" to the board and director that football be done to the best of your ability. Judging from your mindset (if you're a resident), you're probably right that nothing will change for the better. If it DOES matter to you, call Mr. Martin, call Mr. Franks, call whomever you can and give them your opinion that things need to be done differently if you're going to have a different result.
  2. I really can't affirm nor counter this statement, but I do know that there was a team meeting with two or three weeks left on the schedule. I heard from a very reliable source that the "team" took a vote, and that the majority of them were for walking out and not playing out the remainder of their games unless they were promised that the current coach was gone as soon as season was over. I do think that you're underselling the job though. McNairy hasn't had a good run in a long time...I believe that the "right guy" could turn things around there pretty fast. Their competition isn't looking great for the next few years, so a "decent" team could have a respectable record...talent in the area isn't bad compared to their district, if they could attract some of the marginal Adamsville kids (heard that that's more possible than ever) and just a few others. Pay and control have to be there to get your dude...fix that and things can be looking up.
  3. I will conditionally agree, but only because the AD should go to the coach and demand a roster before the season begins...if one is requested yet not produced, then BOTH have failed.
  4. Compiling a "true" list would be impossible, but a better list than this wouldn't be too difficult. Many times deserving players are left off simply because they get "lost" on mediocre teams who receive very little press. There are some glaring omissions from this list though that have opposite circumstances. I'll give you just one... #25 from Riverside. Very likely "deserved" to be on the list as both RB and LB. If decorum says that you have to be one or the other and not both, I'm fine with that but to leave him off completely...as Bigpun54 said... comical. He didn't "get lost" on an average team, he starred on both sides of the ball for the state champs!
  5. Arguable about the athletes...Bolivar has plenty of them as well, but both schools have problems getting their athletes on the football field.
  6. Happened at SH last (Tuesday) night...subbed in a player not correctly accounted for on the roster in the third quarter. Their own scorekeeper had wrong information on the player.
  7. WOW. Lateral move at best. I could see him leaving, but for a "better" job than Humboldt looks to be from the outside. Seemed like a good guy, and I thought that Bolivar improved every year that he was there...hope that he finds some success with the Vikings.
  8. Hard to tell what they'll do in the future SpottedGoat... their mode of operation allows them the freedom to shuffle the deck with their schools as they choose. They operate as a "zoned" system, but have a form to submit to the system office for consideration to be allowed to attend a school outside their zone. Basically a license to selectively assemble a particular group of students at whichever school they choose.
  9. Point taken and you're technically right, but I'm guessing that you've seen a ref point out a fan and have them removed...right? In this situation a fan was reportedly yelling directly at and harassing what I presume to have been a minor, and in that situation I would expect that a ref would at some point have heard enough to act if no one else took the initiative. Better a game official than an opposing fan...we can all sit here and point fingers at how stupid and low-class it seems to fight at an athletic event, but in truth how many of us would sit by and let a grown man berate our son/grandson/ect... without doing something "stupid"? I can tell you that I've been to hundreds (maybe thousands) of games without embarrassing myself (too much...LOL!) or my school, but I can't tell you for sure what I would or wouldn't do in that exact situation.
  10. I'm not arguing that a coach be responsible for "creating" a roster and delivering it to the other team for each game...I'm saying that basketball coaches have from July to practice the team and set their lineup... surely they can compile a list of players that are members of the team with grade, position, height, and jersey number between July and November! The AD should have every head coaches roster on file and be able to forward the roster on demand. If that's too much to ask, someone isn't too proficient at their job.
  11. Short recap... Liberty's "Magnet" designation accomplishes the goal of JMCSS by attracting athletes from all over Madison County. Multiple teams compete at championship level including Football, with region titles and championship game appearances. JMCSS "support" for Liberty Tech's athletic programs withers to nothing, and multiple great coaches leave like rats running from a barn fire. The caliber of coaches there during their run was amazing. JMCSS has a new "crown jewel" in JCM, and all the favoritism that used to be shown Liberty now is directed to them. Longtime loyal coaches at other JMCSS schools with championships in their resume' received no raises, while new hires at JCM were compensated much more with no classroom duties (those coaches have now left JCM because JMCSS couldn't maintain it). That was 15 years condensed into 15 seconds of reading. There are more details, but that's the recipe for the rise and fall of Liberty Tech Magnet's athletic programs.
  12. I'm not the dude to ask about restricting people's liberties, I hate the thought of it. There are fine points regarding the law of the land as it relates to the constitution though... speech can only be "chilled" by an authority if the speech in question meets certain criteria for threatening harm, inciting violence, and disturbing peaceful assembly. Adhere to the Bill of Rights when dealing with the public and I'm good with keeping the peace. As for the good Sherriff I'm sure that he means well, but his assessment of who owns the facility is skewed... the people to whom he was speaking "own the facility" if it's a public school. It will probably require a violation of someone's civil liberties by a governmental agency, and a large settlement paid out to officially clarify where the boundary is between the right to free speech and inciting a disturbance or violent behavior. My guess is that it won't be much longer before it happens with the current way folks act coupled with the ignorance and disregard of basic human liberties by most authority figures.
  13. Some of the lucky ones haven't experienced what you're talking about pioneer... there's a certain region that we used to schedule 3/4 teams from every other year home/away (one game a year). In the years we travelled across the river, you just knew that if you were good enough to win that you'd have to beat the refs too. Not talking about "iffy" calls either... talking about how on earth could he/she call that???
  14. Shoutout to Jack Camper from Riverside... if some of the bigger guys on this list had his heart, they'd be playing on Sundays. Glaring omission... Jagger Cupples from Riverside. As good as most on this list on both sides of the ball.
  15. I love this perspective! TSSAA's standard response to any situation is to punish those with the most to lose and the least amount of representation (the kids). Adult human beings ( three officials, game administrator, two head coaches & their assistants, and law enforcement) were in paid positions to ensure that proper conduct was maintained on the floor and in the stands. What disciplinary action or punishment have they received (other than team connections) for their inaction? I get that sometimes things happen that we can't account for nor control, but after reading some of these posts it's pretty clear that certain fan/s have behaved this way before, and the coaches and refs should have noticed building tension/friction. JMO, but it would have been pretty simple to have ejected the loudmouth or sat one or both kids that loudmouth was yelling about. Any combination of people who I listed could have ejected loudmouth, and any of the three refs or coaches should have addressed their player. I guess that it's just easier to do nothing, wait for someone else to do the right thing, and point fingers afterward.
  16. I really don't know the answer to that, just someone that applied and feels good about his chances. Also, not trying to be smug or a know it all about this or any of these situations, but I feel that any and all announcements of this nature should be made public only by those involved. In a perfect world a new hire should be in the presence of the team that he's joining when they hear who the new coach is, and likewise if the coach has to leave someplace to accept a new job, it should be his decision as to how and when he says his goodbye's... in this time of social media both are simply not possible, but that doesn't give me (or anyone else) the privilege of "breaking the story" just to appear to be in the know.
  17. Heard a name or two that some think would be a good fit. Your guess about hiring a coordinator may not come to pass, but it's definitely a possibility. West Tn roots with Knoxville grad assistant on resume'.
  18. Just mincing words, but it didn't "fall"... it was shoved down.
  19. It could be a great job, with some "if's" clarified... talent will ebb and surge, but will mostly be pretty good even in the leaner years. They're surrounded with prospective athletes from Selmer and Adamsville, and could draw a few from Chester Co, Wayne Co, and even out of state IF a coach can manage to attract them. Hardin Co. needs to step up their game for coaches' salary... not terrible, but not enough to draw the "that guy" type of hire. IF HC can just be competitive in salary, the positives could land them their home run guy. Control. Red flag is the old coach retaining the AD position. Who has the final word on assistants, offense, defense, players, ect... IF the AD agrees that the new coach runs the program, maybe nothing but "letting go" isn't easy and if I were interviewing for the job it would have to be understood up front. The great thing is that everything the Tigers need to do to really up their game depends only on them and how much it matters to them to get better. Ego's will have to be put aside and money will need to be spent, but not that much of either in the big picture. All that's left is to wait and see IF it matters.
  20. You can't really pin that on fans...some could absolutely do it off the top of their head, but no accountability for accuracy whether accidental or purposeful. In my opinion, it should be required of coaches to have a "standard" roster each season including class, number, height, and usual position.
  21. It sort of came out slowly...I think maybe the 23'rd was when he stated it publicly, but I could be wrong. You folks should attract some top notch applicants with the facilities available and your recent talent level. With good financial compensation and "control" of football operations at the level of someone's satisfaction, I'd expect HC to land a coach that would move the expectations even higher for the program.
  22. With the unavoidable transfer rule and NIL consequences looming, it's pointless to try and get ahead of athletes moving around to better their situations using the current restrictions... just the tip of the iceberg is showing so far and it will get much worse in a hurry. Just wait and see what happens to small town athletics in the near future.
  23. You can add this... I've never spoken to Lampkins about leaving Gleason personally, but I do know that he's said no to some attractive offers before. He's always been a "lifer" there, and I don't expect that to change.
  24. My Christmas wish for all of you is peace, prosperity, happiness, and good health for you and yours! My solution for you to have all these things is to accept that Jesus was born into this world for the purpose of your salvation, and to pay the penance for your shortcomings. Celebrate the season by spending time with, and giving to those you love but remember that the Sears and Roebuck Wish Book (ask someone older if you don't know) nor 'Ol Saint Nick isn't where Christmas originated.
