I would first talk to a school that has a team and is about the same size. Second,you have to consider D1 or D2,because D2 you will have to travel further for district games. Third,if you are in D1 your district will be set for you. Football is the most expensive sport in High School. Thats why in college there are so many basketball teams than football teams. Travel, pads, uniforms, coaches salaries, stadium and grass upkeep, and insurance is very expensive and very competitive. It will take alot of parent support and patience for long painful beginner seasons. On the plus side, there is nothing you can do more to build excitement and enrollment (if private) than to start a team. It would be an endless thread if we talked the history of all the programs that started in middle Tn. However if you were to do your homework and research it would be a great thing. Also talking to several schools public and private would be wise because they all have different budgets and cost. I think it is more obvious that I am not an expert, but I have heard of schools reaching out to other schools for that kind of help. Principals, Atheletic Directors, and Head Coaches at others schools know all the details of a football program.
