  1. Any current news on this potential hire?
  2. I thought he was a mainstay in the Clarksville High School Football scene? Am I missing something? I have been out of the loop for a while now.
  3. Which school in CMCSS will TA be head coach in '19. I'm sure he is chomping at the bit to lead again.
  4. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. It should have never happened in the 1st place. Understanding & following the rules are just as important as being able to call Power on 3rd and short or knowing when to run blitz or not. Just sayin'
  5. No sir. He is rumored to be in the running for other jobs West of TN River. He has done a good job at Waverly, looking in from a distance. I think the best thing he has done besides cosmetically changing the program is to get the athletes out for football. Jimmies & Joe's, not X's & O's.
  6. Let's see................I guess McConnell had a hard decision to make in the heat of battle. Put the ball in the hands of the reigning TSSAA Class 2A Mr. Football winner and throwing it to the current TSSAA 2A Mr. Football Finalist.........or let Bradley run the ball. I am sure most coaches would love to have that problem. lol
  7. I come from a place back in the day where they were asked to leave the stadium or gym & some were denied to come back for a calendar year.
  8. I have no problem with them if they know who their target is from the get/go. Don't waste anyone's time. Go get him. Good deal.
  9. Did Northwest even interview anyone? I know for a fact of some very good coaches that applied or sent in a resume' & did not even get a courtesy email or phone call.
  10. I went to a playoff game this year in Waverly. What I am about to say really has noting to do with the great people of Waverly. Thru my lucky life as a coach/teacher/AD, I have seen Waverly up close and personal for over 20 years, in all sports and education in general. I know some great educators in Humphreys County. But...........I witnessed some harsh coach bashing in the stands. I know it comes with the territory, but I could not get over the fact of where Waverly was for a LONG time and where they are now, yet the bashing was unreal. This was during a dismantling of a very good 11-1 team. I know it was probably from a group of people who do not have a clue, but that does not need to happen. It is not good for the kids involved. Again, I know it goes on in every high school stadium, every Friday night, & every team in the country, but...............
  11. Is the Johnson kid a lineman or skill kid (TE)? Why didn't he play in '18?
  12. 1st of all, what is your definition of “spread”? That term is so generic. Spread can mean 1000 different things in football. You mask anything in “spread”. I want to know your scheme......not formations. Your name references Zone Read. You can run zone read out of 2 tite 3 Back formations. Be more specific.
  13. CCHS should do whatever they can to get Wattenbarger back. I am not sure of the zoning situation in Cumberland County, but obviously the good players seemed to have followed Wattenbarger to Stone Memorial, unless all the good players live North of I-40?
  14. I am sure there are coaches that want to come in and be great. Waverly May now be a destination job for great, hard working coaches who want the small town community feel. Some great coaches may not desire the big time 6A or elite private jobs. The key to Waverly from this point on is not necessarily the coaching.......it is if McConnell and his staff developed their younger kids to be able to compete. In other words, hopefully McConnell didn’t throw all his eggs in one Basket with the 2-3 great skill kids he has had the last 3-4 years. With that being said, I am assuming McConnell had a solid JV program as well. It is critical that the young kids have chances to improve under the lights, not just scout teaming for current starters.
  15. I have been coaching in TN for almost 30 years & I have rarely seen it. Sometimes you see it when a new school opens in the middle of a classification cycle & they must play an independent schedule for a year or 2. But I can’t temember it happening simply because the school systems says they cannot compete. I would like to see examples in the past myself.
  16. How many fundraisers are the programs in Hump County allowed to do each calendar year? Where I come from, they are only allowed 2 and it takes an act of Congress to get permission thru central office to be able to do that. If Hump County can do more, then that is a bonus. That allows programs to get the funds they need to be successful. I personally thought the fieldhouse was complete before McConnell came in. What changes were made to it? I thought it was pretty nice. As far as salary is concerned, coaches know going in that they do not get "paid" as a teacher/coach. If you land a gig that the school system actually chips in extra, then you have found a windfall. Who is going to be QB next season now that their lefty is graduating?
  17. Then make your statement about support more clear and detailed & I would not have wasted 3 minutes of my life responding to you. lol. "Support" can mean a number of different things. I have been to Waverly a few times over the years. They have a fieldhouse that was not there when I was in school. They have a practice area that a lot of big programs would be envious with. They need a new set of visitors bleachers. I am in no way comparing my Waverly knowledge to you Troll, it is obvious you seem to be one of the few people who care deeply about Waverly athletics and seem to be an insider. It can be tough in small towns and small schools to generate corporate sponsors or financial support. All coaches should be paid more than what they are............everywhere. They spend more time with kids than their own parents/guardians. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Waverly with McConell probably going back across the river soon. What does Waverly have at the Middle School level and Jr Pro coming up?
  18. & I think he is of the C of C cloth.
  19. Adm don't care about Football? Former Coach Graves is the AD. Trust me, he cares deeply about Tiger Football. Coach Rye, the principal, loves athletics, particularly football. I know this on fact. Conversations with those 2 men the last few years, you can tell the excitement in their voices. Heck, Their basketball coach won't schedule games in November anymore because of Football and kids being involved. Waverly has had a run of very good players the last few years. Before that, for years, they could not compete. McConnell came in at the absolute best time. Moving to 2A helped them as well. They really struggled when they were playing up in Region competition with Camden, Creek Wood, Cheatham County, Harpeth, Montgomery Central, Hickman County, Lewis County & even Stewart County. If they can stay at 2A (biggest 2A school) they should be able to compete.
