  1. Yeah his descent plan only allowed him to be at 120.2 for the Sonoraville match. Just part of the process. HWT was a coaches decision. I think we will be on track this week. So what you got for score predictions?
  2. Baylor vs Bradley on Thursday at Bradley. Anyone want to predict the score? Cleveland vs Father Ryan on Friday at Cleveland. Wilson Central beat them pretty handily a week ago so how close do you think they can keep it?
  3. This is the one weight class this year in which guys are battling for second. There is not anyone that can compete with him physically in Tennessee.
  4. I think the rule works as intended for the most part. It’s a deterrent which is what it was intended to be anyway. Now it wasn’t designed for wrestling so much as it was for football and basketball. If you have the means and you feel like your kid can get a quality education and perhaps better coaching or opportunities at another school then either sit out or make a legitimate move. There are options out there already. Now I do think if you transfer in either direction of public to private or private to public it should cost you a year. This having two sets of rules is ridiculous. One standard for everyone not this current double standard. It would force the private schools to commit to these kids before they are state champions. Two sides to ever position on this deal though. It’s already more complicated than it should be.
  5. 138 No Tennessee kids finished in the top 4. Highest finisher was Hylton from Davey Crockett. 145 Cannedy from Greenville defeated Hurst from Dobbins Bennet 4-3 for 3rd. 152 C. Laxton from Cleveland finished 3rd. Lost an overtime match in the semis to the defending state champ from Alabama. 160 Morrisette from Dobbins Bennett finished 5th. 170 Morrisette from Dobbins finished 2nd and Brezna from Cleveland was 5th. 182 Highest placing Tennessee kid was Boyd from Cleveland and he finished 6th. 195 Highest placer from Tennessee was Harris from Cleveland at 5th. 220 Davis from Cleveland finished 1st and dominated everyone. 285 Mccurdy from Hixson finished 3rd. I didn’t stay for the awards so I don’t know who got OW but the Tampa Jesuit kids dominated some weights more than others. They only brought 11 kids and won 7 weight classes and the overall tournament. Now as a fan Friday was a disaster from a tournament stand point because it started two hours late and didn’t run as scheduled. Saturday was better but it was not smoothly ran at all. This is not a judgement of Dobbins Bennett because running a tournament is hard and a lot of work. Things don’t always go as planned.
  6. That is anyone’s guess at this point. He trains with the Boom Ranch which is in Cleveland. He is homeschooled currently.
  7. Here are some results from Dobbins Bennett! 106 Ellison of Cleveland made the finals and lost to Kai Owen of Tampa Jesuit, Fl. 113 No Tennessee kids in finals. Laxton of Cleveland got 4th. 120 Bradford of Cleveland lost in Finals 8-6 Overtime B. Basile of Tampa Jesuit. Good match just came up short. Braden Ivy of Lakeway Christian lost to same kid in the semis 8-4. 126 No Tennessee kids in finals. McDaniel of Cleveland lost in the quarters to Crook from Tampa Jesuit 9-8 in a barn burner. Crook won in the finals. Seeding in this bracket was off a little. 132 Hunter Mason of Greenville lost in the finals to Tampa Jesuit kid. Close match. i will do the others shortly.
  8. Curious to see what Arlington has this year. They lost Cannon and Antcliff I do believe and they normally have a full team and those kids compete hard.
  9. Maryville 42 Walker Valley 33 Cleveland 67 Jefferson County 3
  10. Davis of Cleveland over Shelton Jefferson County 8-2.
  11. Jefferson County 43 Walker Valley 35 Maryville 0 Cleveland 75
  12. The weigh ins were based on the honor system. I am going to leave it at that. Give Moore all the credit in the world he wrestled a smart match given the one minute periods. Significant win at a preseason tournament though? Nothing any of these kids are chasing is won in November. Now Laxton versus Bradford from Blackman was close and I would think will continue to be moving forward. Ellison although small for the weight wrestled good. Randall is going to surprise some people this season. Williams will be a contender at 138-145. Wilson Central looked good from the matches I was able to catch. They will be a good dual team with not a lot of holes this year. Borders is the favorite at 113 and the Fort and Fisak kid both wrestled solid.
  13. The results are interesting considering no one had to actually make weight. It was a good day of wrestling though.

    Week 1

Any chance they stream those matches?
  15. Baylor is adding a two time Tulsa winner from Michigan allegedly. No idea what weight he will be at but they will be loaded for sure.
  16. They were both at 126 for Southeast Regionals although they didn’t wrestle each other in either style. Both took losses to the Rigal kid from New York in Greco. Bradford lost 10-0 and Belcher lost by fall. Belcher finished 2nd and Bradford 3rd. In Freestyle Bradford won and Belcher DNP. I think a lot depends on line up choices as they will not see each other outside of the dual and region tournament.
  17. Science Hill has a great staff no doubt. I think what the numbers don’t really show is who will be stepping in for those who graduated. I have heard that Wilson Central is getting a kid back from Georgia. They also lost a State Champ and a runner up so how do they fill in those spots. Cleveland lost a big group but they had several kids who sat last year who could start at most places. They are replacing 132 (3rd),145 (SC),152 (SC),170,195 (2nd), 220 (4th), 285 (4th). That’s a lot of points among those who graduated. Can Bradley get some young kids to really make a splash? I think they proved last year that even when you think they are down they are always in the discussion.
  18. I look for Science Hill to surprise some people and make it into that fourth spot. They were very young last year and they bring back Bodo, Gillespie, Seeley, Mann, Frye and a lot of kids that got experience last year. Bradley’s feeder had a great year last year but they are 8th graders moving into Highschool. Big transition for those kids especially those above 126 pounds. Returning Points Science Hill 106 points with 9 qualifiers Cleveland 95.5 points 7 qualifiers Wilson Central 91 points 6 qualifiers Bradley 68 points 9 qualifiers
  19. I didn’t say we couldn’t I merely stated that is not what is done in other states. I actually like the idea of giving power to the board. It represents every corner of the state and there are some really great people on the board. Now will USA wrestling give its blessing for that type of configuration I don’t know but we can ask for it.
  20. No other USA state organization functions in this manner. I think the positions are clearly defined by the USA wrestling governing body. Not sure this is an option.
  21. It needs to be someone who has a few things. 1. Integrity and character. 2. Someone who wants the job and not someone being pushed into the job. 3. Has time available to do the job at a high level and not a half hearted effort. 4. The individual must have what is best for the kids and growing the sport as there first priority.
  22. Did I say something that wasn’t true? Was there not an option presented to them that made participation more affordable for everyone? How is that not the path we are choosing? How short sighted do you have to be to not understand that this is about control and power and nothing more. This has zero to do with what is right and in the best interest of the kids. That’s why I have a problem Mr. Anthony with the leadership of our USA wrestling organization. It doesn’t put the kids first and that is wrong in every single way imaginable.
  23. You know what is not in this survey? The common sense approach of making it affordable for everyone which has already been offered to the leadership. What an absolute joke.
