  1. I have no problem with spring practice, it’s a good time to teach fundamentals and work with marginal kids that you don’t have time to do in August. What I’m not a fan of is spring games/scrimmages. Putting in game plans for a meaningless game takes away from the things I mentioned earlier.
  2. I saw on Facebook where former state champion HC Bill Price is returning to SMHS as offensive/defensive line coach.
  3. My Senior year in Georgia, at a 3A school in what was then a 4 class state, we dressed 26 players and somehow went 5-4-1. It can be done.
  4. FYI- Coach Shawn Peek informed me this morning that Vic Grider has accepted the AD and asst. principal job at Dade Co. High.
  5. You guys are getting dangerously close to sounding like you want to do what Florida is doing- Separate by Rural vs. Urban. Look it up.
  6. Georgia also named a new director last week. He too is a former educator, but he also did some coaching. In Tennessee, Ronnie Carter was the best.
  7. Not the best job out there, but far from the worst, the Brainerd job in Chattanooga came open again this morning.
  8. That has always been my philosophy about scrimmages.
  9. True. But I still can’t think of a team that I would pick to beat you all. You get Maryville at home this year. Thinking long term, Creasy is not going to be there forever, but you all have a history of making solid hires.
  10. He’ll age a lot in the next few years…..
  11. No dog in this, but as for MS coaches helping HS, at my 5 stops; small, medium and large schools, only one had the MS head coach setting in the press box on Friday night as an extra set of eyes.
  12. Valid points Mr. Booger. I have a friend who’s son plays for that ‘church of Christ school’ they are very impressive. I admit to not being all that familiar with Alabama football. Just Hoover and the large schools in the Birmingham area. Tennessee and Georgia are my domain.
  13. ……They were probably a factor in Vestevia Hills’ coach’s decision to come back to Georgia also. Both schools are in Thompson’s region.
  14. Thompson is 3 time defending Alabama 7A champ, and the main reason that Hoover’s coach ‘retired’ and took a job in Georgia after last season.
  15. I’ve always viewed Columbia as a sleeping giant.
  16. Solid choice. He is the one who built the program at Ooltewah. Benny Monroe then came in and took it to the next level.
  17. When we played Rankin’s ‘92 Riverdale team in the playoffs, they threw it a lot more than any Rankin team I saw in future years. Their passing attack was the difference in the outcome of the game.
  18. I reside in Georgia, although I follow Tenn. high school sports. On 2 different occasions down here schools have turned to the General Assembly about unpopular GHSA decisions. Both times the GHSA changed course.
  19. Slightly off topic- But RE Rankin not being a household name, the closest that Maryville High came to losing during their 74 game winning streak when they were 4A was a 1st Round playoff game against Brainerd. Why was the game so close? My theory is that the Brainerd kids had never heard of Maryville, and as such were not defeated before they got off of the bus.
  20. Changing the subject. Your coach is said to be in the mix for the Red Bank job?
