  1. Middle Tennessee Christian gets a COVID win over Columbia Academy and the table is set for a quarterfinal matchup at USJ. This will be the first ever meeting between the Cougars and the Bruins. Both teams finished in a second-place tie in their respective regions in what has been a wild year in high school football across the state. The Bruins had a total of 4 games cancelled due to COVID, were able to replace 2 of them early in the season, but no such luck as the season wore on. Adding in a playoff bye week means when they take the field on 11/13, it will be for the first time in 28 days. We did hold a formal Blue & White game last friday to get some full speed action for the boys, but rust could definitely still be an issue. On the bright side, most of our injured troops should be back to full strength. I have watched a little film on MTCS, but don't have a great feel for the team yet. Anyone on here have any insight?
  2. Not sure I'm correct because I checked this at 5:30am as I was working at our restaurant. I think through the 6 classes in D-1, there were 37 teams with a losing record that qualified for the playoffs. There were 7 teams with a .500 record or better that didn't qualify for the playoffs. Only solution I see is fewer classes, larger regions, possibly more playoff teams with better records. How about it?
  3. This postseason, SETN Preps will have March Madness in November! Do you think you can pick a better bracket than Chandler, Chris, or Jon? Then sign up! It’s ust that simple! Create an account on Challonge at the link below: SIGN UP NOW When the brackets are released Saturday, you will be able to make picks for every bracket and every classification! Brackets will go live Saturday, October 2 at 12 PM CT/1 PM ET. From there you will be able to pick one full bracket for each classification! We will post when brackets are ready on SETNPreps.com and right here on the CoachT Message Boards. The Brackets will close on Friday at 4 PM CT/5 PM ET (unless there are Thursday game scheduled, in which case, the closing time would be 4 PM CT/5 PM ET on that Thursday). THE WINNER WILL BE FEATURED ON OUR WEBSITE AND ON A SPECIAL PODCAST WITH CHRIS AND CHANDLER! RULES Each pick is worth points. Each round those points are doubled. (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 4 points, etc.) The winner will the person who accumulates the most points in a single bracket. (Possible high score 80 points for a perfect bracket) The winner will be the high point total from any classification, not the combined point of a single person with multiple brackets. The Division II-A and II-AA brackets together will count as one bracket. The point totals will be combined in order to have the same point total and same number of picks as the Division I brackets, which have 32 in each classification. The Division II-AAA Bracket point total will be tripled as to remain fair since only 8 teams make up this bracket. Quadrupling this bracket would give the same point totals and picks as Division I brackets, but picking in an 8-team bracket is significantly easier than a 32-team bracket, so we triple this to keep the playing field fair. If there is a tie in regards to point totals, the following tiebreakers will be implemented: The person with the most brackets filled out will be declared the winner. If these is still a tie, the person with the highest point total across all the brackets they filled out will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie in regards to tiebreaker No. 2, the person with the most champions picked correctly will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie after tiebreaker No. 3, the winner will be decided by a coin flip. Challonge only allows a person to fill out one bracket per classification per account. If you wish to use another account to fill out more brackets, you may do so. If it comes to a tiebreaker, you will have to use the picks made with the account that is in the tiebreaker. IF THERE IS A BYE IN THE BRACKET, YOU HAVE TO PICK THE TEAM WITH THE BYE. IF YOU SELECT THE BYE, YOU WILL LOSE THE POINTS THAT COME FROM PICKING THE TEAM WITH THE BYE. Once the brackets are closed on either the Friday or Thursday mentioned above the rules, no changes will be made. However, SETN Preps may make a Second Chance Bracket starting with the Quarterfinal round, and that will be a seperate competition from this bracket challenge. For any questions or comments on the Bracket Challenge please comment on this post or email us at [email protected]. 5. http://www.dnj.com/article/20131027/NEWS/310270027/The-Sunday-Q-Bernard-Childress-TSSAA-may-revise-playoff-system-again-2015 The Sunday Q&A with Bernard Childress: TSSAA may revise playoff system again in 2015 I posted on this web-site the day they announced the new 'Z' system that is would cause more problems than it would solve. I said then and I say now that non-district games should NEVER count in any high school sport. Imagine doing this for baseball or basketball. Try scheduling non-district games then. I have used the example of Lavergne for years. How they could schedule 'A' and 'AA' teams for out of district, win a couple of district games, get 6 or 7 wins and make the playoffs. This year, my Riverdale fits that profile. Instead of playing Bradley Central (5-4), East Hamilton (7-2), Hendersonville (7-2) and Cane Ridge (5-4) perhaps we should have played Glencliff (0-9), Coffee Co (0-9), Knoxville Halls (0-9) and Portland (0-9). Instead of being (3-6) (3-2 and sole possession of third in 7AAA) we could be (7-2) and in the playoffs headed into senior night against Smyrna. Non-District games should NEVER come into play for the post-season. If they don't then scheduling is far easier. What do YOU think?
  6. Another huge line up for Friday Night Main Event. We will be talking football with the Head Coaches of each of these programs beginning at 4:00 Pm (Central Time) Friday Oct. 18th. Smryna Head Coach Matt Williams Fulton Head Coach Rob Black Blackman Head Coach Philip Shadowens Columbia Head Coach Howard Stone Eagleville Head Coach Steve Carson Following interviews, we will discuss current Quad pairing for all six classes. We will use the last half hour of our program to give you insight into the biggest games around the State and give you our picks to win each of those games! You can catch us at 93.9 FM if your within a 60 mile radius of Tullahoma. You can also click HERE for a link to our live stream. Another great option for smart phones is to download the free "tune in" app. and search 939 The Duck after downloading. Our show starts at 4 and runs until 6. After a brief break, we'll return to provide you play by play coverage of the big game between number 3 Blackman and number 10 Smyrna!
  7. This will be our Friday Night Main Event this week! Even though District 11 has been decided, both these teams feel they still have a lot to prove and Centennial will probably need to win this game to make the playoffs. Should be a great game against two very evenly matched opponents. What are your thoughts on this one? We will be on the air at 4:00 PM (Central Time). I will run down all the likely playoff matchups after predicting results for Friday nights action. We will also cover all the top games in the State for Friday night. As always, we have a great line up of Coaches to interview including: Franklin Head Coach Donnie Webb Shelbyville Head Coach Jason Hardy Rhea County Head Coach Mark Pemberton Giles County Head Coach Walt Smith You can hear us at 93.9 FM if your within a 60 mile radius of Tullahoma. If not, you can catch a live stream of both our pregame show and the Live Play By Play of this game by clicking here. Download the "tune in" app. to your smart phone and hear us by searching 93.9 The Duck.

  11. F. Each district may choose to break ties in its regular season contests using a modified tie-breaker system. Each district shall decide whether or not to use this option prior to the start of the season. If a district votes to use the option for its district contests, the following tie-breaker procedure shall be used in the regular season: Teams will play two 10 minute Golden Goal (Sudden Victory) overtime periods. At the end of the first 10 minute overtime period, teams shall change ends. There shall be a two-minute interval between periods. If, at the conclusion of the two 10 minute Golden Goal (Sudden Victory) overtime periods, a tie still exists, the tie shall be broken with the penalty kick procedure outlined in the NFHS Rulesbook. Beginning with postseason play, all contests shall use the NFHS tie-breaking procedure. District 4 did not break ties in the regular season. If HVA beats Farragut, Then HVA and Maryville will have the same record. I was told if this happened, they would use goal differential. My question, do they use all common opponents or only district opponents for the differential? Currently, with HVA having a game remaining, Maryville has a 3 goal lead in District. If they beat FHS by 3 they are still tied. Does anyone know where this is written down. It reads like the District decides it's own tiebreaker for seeding. 12. Riverside travels to Hohenwald for round 2. Can they Frost Sharp's footballs and escape with a win? Or are the mighty Lewis Co. Panthers too much for my RiverRats? Their record at home is something like 90% over the past 15 years.
  13. I was wondering how attendance went at round 1 games. My thoughts: Melrose @ Covington- Melrose only had a handful of spectators (20 to 30) including their band. For a similar game at our place 15 or 16 years ago, they tailgated and packed the visitor stands. Covington had stands that were 2/3 full (less than most home games). Weather was rainy and chilly. I think the weather and the matchup cut into the crowd. How about your game?
  14. We've predicted the outcome of tomorrow nights games and seeded this class based on our predictions. Don't expect to get them all right, but we spent a lot of time going over common opponents to derive at this bracket. Always something you don't expect to happen, will happen. Hopefully this is close to what you'll see Saturday morning: Quad One 1. Knoxville Fulton (District three (1) 8. Scott County 4. Knoxville Carter (District Three (2)) 5. Elizabethton (District One (2)) 2. Sullivan South (District one (1)) 7. Grainger (District two (2)) 3. Greeneville (District Two (1)) 6. Knoxville Catholic (District four (2) Quad Two 1. Hixson (District Six (1)) 8. Chattanooga Central 4. Sequoyah (District Five (2)) 5. Dekalb County 2. Signal Mountain (District seven (1) 7. Marshall County 3. Giles County (District 12 (2)) 6. East Ridge Quad Three 1. Pearl Cohn (District Ten (1) 8. Montgomery Central 4. Chester County (District 14 (2)) 5. Greenbrier 2. White House (District Nine (1)) 7. Maplewood 3. Lexington (District 14 (1) 6. Page Quad Four 1. Trezevant (District 16 (1)) 8. Haywood County 4. Craigmont (District 16 (2)) 5. Liberty Magnet (District fifteen (2) 2. Dyersburg (District 13 (1)) 7. Crockett County 3. Covington (District fifteen (1)) 6. Jackson Northside
  15. The TSSAA has mandated the Sullivan South Rebels travel 300 miles for a first round playoff game. So let's get after it and bring the best effort of the season. South's offense has morphed from week to week. I would hate to be on the Lion's coaching staff and in the process of scouting the Rebels. There is no telling what they will see. Coach Belew is now gone from Columbia as are his boys. Tre' Goff no longer the beast manning the LB post but I am sure others have filled in. How bout it Lions' fans? What does Columbia look like this year for the 2 or 3 dozen South fans that will be making the first round trip to another time zone?
  16. I hope that TSSAA and Go Fan becomes a little smarter as playoffs progress. Each week the exact same link is sent to both schools to manage and distribute to participants and their parents for 24hrs before ticket sales go public. There are no restrictions to keep one team from buying the other tickets through this link and to expect that an honor system would be used is unbelievable in this day and time. Now some schools are releasing the link earlier and earlier each Monday to get a jump on ticket sales and even are stating they are buying the other team's allotted tickets. Get it fixed TSSAA
