Alcoa Vs. Hopkinsville

Hopkinsville traditionally had a very good football program. They didn’t win the 3A state championship last year as was reported in an earlier post. They won their region then lost to the eventual state champion Boyd County. They lost the best player, Curtis Pulley QB/DB, who signed with UK to play QB. So they have an inexperienced, but very athletic QB who figures to improve as the season progresses. They are quick and athletic at most skill positions. Very strong at the running back and middle linebacker. The line is a little undersized, but strong and quick. They do have a new head coach, so studying last year’s film might not be of much help. His teams in the past played a very tough, hard nose type of football. Most years, Hopkinsville is ranked in the top ten in 3A preseason polls, however, most feel they wont be as good as they were last season. They too open with a killer schedule, playing two of the best teams in Kentucky after Alcoa. They may take their lumps at the beginning of the year, but should finish first or second in their district and be competitive in the region. We have heard about the D1 players on Alcoa and know about the number of returning starters off last years state championship team. I hope we can give you guys a good game. Hoptown doesn’t have any D1 stars yet, maybe some will emerge this year. In short, there are a lot of unknowns about this years Hopkinsville team. Maybe we have some questions answered Friday.

Hopkinsville always has physical teams and this year should be no different. They do have some athletes on both sides of the football and some size up front. They can also play two deep at most positions and not lose a step. This is what separates them from most of the other teams they play in the regular season. But in the end, they just don't have the same number of horses that Alcoa has.

 

As far as last week's scrimmage goes, they beat Warren Central of Bowling Green, who BluegrassPreps.com picked as a preseason top ten team in Class 4A. WC has 17 players back from last year.

I don't know if anyone has asked this question already, but where IS Hopkinsville? Is this a suburb or Lexington or Louisville? Or is it one of the eastern Kentucky mining towns? Just curious.

Hoptown is about 20 minutes past Clarksville, Tn.

If I can get off work early I may make the trip to scout....errr...watch Alcoa!

 

I think Alcoa's chances are good to come up with a win simply because they area a good team. Can't pick a winner because I know little about Hop-town except it is a military town being near Fort Campbell, KY. Alot of tuff kids around a military town but I'm picking Alcoa.
