Now 17, you'll have to deliver that crow from Nashville. I'm ready.....and I think from Reno's score prediction, he should get a taste also.

Great game to watch and Boone trully earned this win with alot of heart. 35-28! Congradulations to the Blazers. Hicks 'IS' the man along with two well set up 'trick plays' that both went for TDs. Good coaching job and the Blazers are very tough. Not big, but tough as nails. East TN. as a whole has to be proud of you guys.

Good job.

Hate to see our Cyclones go down to them, but they battled to the very end. Early Blazer control with Hicks and company helped seal the deal, but I was impressed with Boone's two TDs on the trick plays. Executed to perfection and the speed helped. Gotta appreciate the Cyclone effort. They played their hearts out and the seniors went out with style coming back time after time. Great turnaround season from a nightmarish start. The underclassmen had an excellant season and have quite a bit to look forward to. Let it roll off of your backs, there is a future to look forward to. There are also some things head coaches have to take a look at before heading into next season. Don't be afraid or too hard headed to make needed changes. It is a part of being a coach.

Gosh, I hate to see it all end, but there is an end to everything. I can tell you this.....South will get all they want and more if Boone plays like they did tonight.

Good luck Blazers, you have a fan in me. :)

Wow, as a former Trailblazer, it almost brings tears to my eyes that we finally beat Elizabethton.

As always, Elizabethton played a very tough game. I thought they were going to roll over when Boone put up 14 points in the first seven minutes, but they came back and fought a very hard game. Hate to see any senior play their last game, but I'm thrilled that Boone came through with their victory.

Hicks is an amazing player. Ran upfield, over players, side ways, wow this guy is the whole package.

Also of note, there was this #9 who impressed me. If Hicks is your MVP, this guy would be considered the team leader. He never stayed down, had to be taken out for a series because of cramps, but he kept going and going. Lots of respect.

So all in all, a good night and Boone now much get ready for a very strong South game at Death Valley. This puts this Boone team at 9-2, tied with the best two records in school history. One more win will put this team as the greatest team in school history. This will be one of the best games to see next week. If Boone can play consistantly well (not those bad stints that they showed) then this could be another win for Boone. But you can't disrespect the Rebel, they will come back in a flash and put you in a place where you can't crawl back for a win.

Boone Pride!

This was who both teams wanted to face in the playoffs, and what a game it was. Tons of respect to Betsy, they fought until the end. We didn't look past them one bit, we knew we would be in for a fight.

As for next week, we have to work on some things that really almost cost us this game. Key turnovers (fumbled twice in a row late in fourth quarter, 14 points up in Betsy territory) really put the game on the line. To beat South at rebel hill we are going to have to play to our potential, and I have all the faith in the world that Coach Jenkins will have us ready.

Good game Betsy, and keep on rolling Boone-

Cyclones just couldnt get over the hump. Came back from 14 down to tie late in first half only to let Boone, with the help of penalties, get a quick score before the half. Yet EHS had enough time to move the ball to the Boone 30 when the Cyclones wasted their last timeout with 20 some seconds left after the clock stopped anyway for a first down. Anyway, the clones again battled from 14 back late in the third, to make it 28-21, only to see Hicks take a dive play on first down the distance, about 60 yards to make it 35-21. Cyclones were stopped on downs deep in DB territory the next series with about 7 min to go, when Boone fumbles the ball back to EHS, who promptly takes it in to make it 35-28 with five to go. Boone gets a gift wrapped first down via penalty to extend the next drive but it finally stalls with a little over a minute to go. Punt snap skips back to punter and for the love of pete I dont know how the kicker gets it off past two streaking cyclones. Anyway, clones get ball 88 yards away with about a minute to go. They get two first downs and nearly break a big pass down the middle. Then play calling gets "tennessee-ish" (three yard outs) and a sack and spike later its fourth and 15, and one incompletion later the game is over. Great game from a spectator standpoint. Lots of action. Cyclone coaches need to do some soul searching in the off season. Honestly, the talent in the junior and soph classes has passed their coaching. Sad but true. Truth is we missed the two departed coaches alot more than most would care to admit. Interesting that McKinney was at tonights game. Oh well, as GLee said, there's always next year.......

Hats off to Boone and especially Hicks. What a back he is. And that number 7 Masters had some nice runs too. That #9 kid from DB was all over the field on both sides of the ball. Good luck to Boone against South. Avoid the turnovers and I think you take them!! Congrats on a great game.

Gongrats to Daniel Boone! Sky Hicks is a special player...ride that horse over Sullivan South, please...

Go DB

I have to admit, I thought he was just a lot of talk because he was the only weapon they had, but I now see the light. That kid is tough and he has all my respect.

I thought the celebration penalty was stupid, but then one of my old coaches told me how they changed the rule a couple of years ago. I know rules stick, but what a stupid rule. How can you expect a kid not to get up when he blocked a VERY huge pass. This resulted in a TD for Bethton and really knocked the wind out of Boone. I kept thinking they would come back, but I guess Boone showed their guts. Even though Betsy finished their year at 5-6 I think, Boone beat a very good team.

If Betsy is a young team, I feel sorry for everyone in their conference. That is going to be a STRONG team next year, so Cyclone fans should be looking forward to a good comeback year

PS I heard from one of the Boone coaches that a Witten was at the game, coaching, yelling "Boone ain't nothing" during the warm-ups, don't know if it is true or not but you can bet that something like that isn't going to ###### off a team that is 0-24 against you :thumb:

as a former player i've played against sky......i've watched him from the stands....and i've watched central hold him every year.....yes i'm aware central can't win a game....but thats not what the discussion is....he's human and south will stomp boone into the ground......congrats boone enjoy it while it lasts

And then you have little children that come to the boards to cry about how they can't get into playoffs, and try to bring down everyone else.

Listen kid im sorry but Sky Hicks is indeed a great back, and it takes more then some whiner from central saying he's not anything special to convince that majority. As for South, South is a good football team but don't think we are going to back down to them.

LOL at the "central hold him every year" quote, your a funny guy. Is this jealousy?? :thumb:

don't run under the assumption that every year players play the same. the line has changed, the D has changed, the backs have changed. He is able to do what he does because of the people around him. yes, it becomes a huge obsticle if he is stopped, but for some reason he keeps doing what he is doing.

South and Boone will be a fun game to watch, a lot of history and rilvalry.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
