size does appear to matter

As I said....... you would try to sell a fridge to an eskimo. All the whining your coach did to get the biggest multiplier in the nation imposed on private schools and you want to call me a cry baby?........That is quite hilarious. As for the drop down, why not go to 2A..... Wait, I'll answer that for ya....... Alcoa to name one........ and oh yeah...... those privates your coach lead the way in removing from 2A. Your pitiful argument falls apart at every thread. It is so easy to predict and debunk your pitiful excuses I feel like I am having a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Who are you people to say that a school with 293 people in high school ( Jo Byrns)is a large school. Also everyone in a classification can not be the same size. High Schools much smaller than that are usually small private schools in there own league. To say that these schools are large is kind of ignorant being that they are all in 1A. As far as playing private schools goes you figure it out. YOu play school like DCA, Ezell Hardin, CPA, FRA, Davidson Academy every year in you region like Jo Byrns had to. Private schools do get some players that small 1A public schools wouldn't get. These schools don't have to worry about zoning and different things that public schools do. The multiplier put these schools on a more fair playing level. I think this makes prefect sense.

Yea, I bet Trousdale has the least amount of players than any left. Count'em.

The only team we have played so far with less players is Temple. Size DOESN"T matter. PERIOD. Quality and Coaching is everything. PERIOD.

Does TC cut players? I'll bet they do. Just like the person from Hampton said, n2music, if a kid at Mt.Pleasant can stick it out through the practices he gets to stay on the team. They don't get cut just because they aren't one of the top 30 athletes. They get the opportunity to practice and make themselves better for the future. And the size they are talking about here is the amount to choose from not play with. I gaurantee it matters, quantity and quality, of kids to choose from.

First of all, good luck to the four teams remaining in 1A. Hampton: You guys are playing like a run away train. TC: Pure tradition. Jo Byrns: Went to college with one of your alums, tough as nails. Union City: Known state-wide.

Now, on to the discussion. I am an observer here with no affiliations, etc. to any 1A schools. Here is the way I see it. No matter the classification, the schools that you see going deep in the brackets year in and year out have one thing in common. They all have their acts togather. What I mean is that they introduce their kids into their systems at an early age, often in pee-wee ball. I am from Livingston, and it has finally began showing for our program. Now I am not comparing LA's history to that of TC, UC, Alcoa, Maryville, Riverdale, etc., but they had to start somewhere and in my humble opinion, this is where it starts. These historical powers start their kids out running the same systems early and take their lumps early, that way they are ready at the high school level.

BTW, in an earlier statement, someone asked why TC didn't go to 2A. Why should they, they are right where the classification said they belong. Wouldn't be fair to compete with a school with over 650 kids now would it?

It seems enrollment does matter. Of the 4 left in 1A 3 came down in classification and barely made 1A enrollment the 4th Jo Byrns has almost 300 (293) so they are large also. Hampton 393. TC 366. Union City 391. There goes the arguement size doesn't matter. It does!

I.m with you again, its a no brainer. We seem to agree on alot of things lately. Looking forward to meeting you when the Hoosiers take on the Colts. I'll give you a weather report, could be a rough night.

You can only play eleven players at a time-when you're on the field I doubt if you're thinking about enrollment (I hope they're focused on the task at hand-THE GAME). Of course, your pickings' may be slim. In Trousdale County, football is a tradition. Many of the players have had fathers and even grandfathers that played for the Jackets. Tradition goes along way with me. Size does matter-the size of your school-community pride and heart!

I haven't said anything about the size of the team it's the amount one has to chose from. It takes a fool that can't see if you were going to pick an army you would do better if you had 2000 to pick from than 1000. Some schools have less than 200 others near 400. The 400 has alot more choices than the 200. Why do you think they have classifications if they didn't I gurantee the ones saying this would be hollering if they had to play an enrollment of 800 so why can't the 200 fuss about the 400. How many dressed out has nothing to do with it. Riverdale could dress out their top 20 and tear yall and the rest of the 1A up. Because they had 1200 to pick those 20 from. This just makes sense. Surely they teach enough math in your school for you to grasp this.

As I said in my above post, but Hampton dresses out anyone who wants to play!! They don't have tryouts!! Yeah we have over 300 students, but trust me when I say that if there were a 4'2" 85 pounder who wanted to play JC Campbell would find a place on the team for him! I can't speak for all teams but I know this to be fact as far as Hampton is concerned.

You are obviously practicing your right as a resident of Tennessee (Road Kill Bill) and wearing out that dog that has been run over so many times. Please, let that dead dog rest in peace. My son attends a 5A school with an enrollment of over 1,600 students, and they probably do not have over 50-60 kids on the football team. What is the reason? I do not know, possibly tradition. That is why the teams you have listed are there year after year. It is because of tradition. Again let the enrollment issue go. :thumb:

I wasn't quoting specifics just generalizing that the more to pick from the better the chance to pick a good one. I don't understand why this riles everyone I wasn't complaining just observing the facts. You can factor in tradition, willingness and everything else but it still comes down to if tou go by the math only, the bigger has an advantage over the smaller. Also the ones that can take players from all locations have an advantage over the ones that are restricted to their own county or city.

We dropped to 1a to see how many crybabies were there, evidently there's a bunch. They split up the 3a region we were in(mostly local teams), why would we stay and have to drive 75-100 miles to play an away game? Why doesn't your team travel to the other side of the state every other Friday night. Open your eyes, fool. We DONT RUN from anyone, we DO RUN over them though. I'm 99% sure we asked THE ALMIGHT RIVERDALE for a game in 97-98, but they wouldn't schedule us, as for the reason, well you'd have to ask coach Rankin for that answer. We offered they refused. Oh yea you better check our records vs the privates, last night we beat a private school, and we are 15-2 against them all time. We played the privates every yr in the playoffs and loved it. The guys who say we ran, well they never got to play them privates cuz they couldn't get that far in the playoffs.

No, you dropped to 1A cause the big bad privates went to 2A and 3A the reason for the 15 and 2 is you ran like rabbits in 2000 when the privates hit their stride and you're still running or you would still be in 3A. Didn't nobody tell you to go up in the first place except your fear of the privates nobody begged you back down except the privates moving up. Everyone else stayed and played Yall ran. Now that they are gone you are stll running, your mouths that is. What would you have done to Riverdale in 99. South Pittsburg tore you up so bad yall got on the bus with your pads on and wouldn't even shake hands. The team almost beat the fans home and the fans got a head start. The next year CPA did the same. The next year yall hauled --- to 3A.
