Jaynes: Let your running do the talking, and don't brag about how you are going to beat people badly, whether in your division or not. If you do the training, just go out there with respect and show everyone what you can do. It's that simple.

Also, my mile will be much improved since I was iron deficient these past 2 seasons (thus the debacle the last month of track in workouts and short races plus the fast freshman mile but not much improvement the past 2 years). My speed is much better now than before, but of course the mile will not be my focus. You may beat me and I wish you the best. Just go out there and run the races, though. We'll all applaud your efforts, but most of these guys won't like you saying that you are going to whip them.

On another note, I am still not able to run with the foot injury, but my plan is to hopefully get up to 90-100 miles a week as soon as possible in preparation for the US Junior 8k race in February (getting top 6 and qualifying this year may be out of the cards as Bumbalough, Macnamara, Bethke, Acosta, etc. will all be there, but there's always next year!). I love the 8k and 10k so much, as my whole family (myself included) has no footspeed. I'll run big, out-of-town meets for the two-mile, and I'll look forward to Jaynes helping me get faster in the mile in local meets. I probably still will never be able to break 2:05 in the 800, but that's okay. All those guys mentioned, though, have a chance to go below 9:15 in the deuce, and some I know are shooting for sub-9 and elite times nationally. TN is on the rise, and I hope JJ will be able to help the state rise even higher in the mid-distance. Heck, the whole country seems to be on the rise as guys aren't afraid to do what worked so well in the 60's and 70's--over 100 miles a week and running fast (although Nelson and his 140 miles a week and Lindgren's 200+ is just crazy). Well, it's bed time. Good luck to all in winter training!

hey todd...i look forward to racin u this year. ull kill me in the 2 mile but hopefully u'll push me to a faster time. im not gonna get anywhere if i nvr race anyone who can run in the 9's. srry about ur foot. i gotta the same thing goin on but a possible stress fracture so i doubt ill be runnin again until late feb. but i def. wont be doin 100+ weeks. i nvr went over 45-50 in the summer for CC. im thinkin more of about 20-30 miles a week.lol. id rather do speed work most of the time. i worry most about the 800 and mile and it seems to work ok. but good luck this year and i hope the injury recovers. peace out

thanks man, good luck with your injury too. yeh, i definitely won't be doing 100 miles a week in the season since track races are shorter than cross, but i'd like to get up there for that 8k. good luck to everyone.

Well of course GJ is faster. But can he throw a javelin and hurddle. Thats where Davies is better

and ayers is better than davies (at least according to the state meet); and what does it matter if davies can throw the javelin? last time i was at the state meet in TN the javelin wasnt contested, however i wil grant the fact that ben is an absolutely amazing thrower

I felt like i needed to state the obvious because some people werent getting the whole idea that its not just running that makes a person more athletic.

I was just merely stating that GJ was faster

I said nothing about one being more athletic than the other

Ayers might have been better last year at the state meet, but in the summer Davies was the one to beat. Take away the Triple and throw in the Javelin and Davies beats Ayers by a good amount (not huge though). It also helps that Davies is an all around better thrower, hurdler and runner (except for 1500m). Ayers has an advantage in the jumps and the vault (although moreso in the jumps, as Davies's vault is usually only a foot under Ayers). It'll be interesting this year to see how much the two have improved and to see if Davies can overcome the triple jump to top Ayers at state.

And what does the Javelin matter? It matters for scholarship money. I'd say a college looking at Davies for the decathlon would rather see his 190+ javelin throw than a 42+ triple jump. Also, winning a few national championships doesn't hurt either.

im well aware of the fact that davies absolutely destroyed ayers at usatf (at wouldnt have prefaced my fact about state if i thought ayers was truly superior); he should, the hurdle height kills ayers as does the throwing; make no mistake i think davies is a far superior decathelete to ayers he just needs to improve his jumping some and his 1500; he will break the state record and probably win some national titles fi he can stay healthy; i see davies as a serious athlete, sub 50, over 50' and 140' ; personally i just find the javelin irrelevant to discussing TN's best track athlete because TN does not sanction the event; its like talking about the steeplechase, and colleges wont care what he can throw even though i bet he goes over 210' by the time he graduates bc he will be so good at other events

oh yea FRA really dominates that aa bball. and what about football ooooo fra is that powerhouse. u have no idea what ur talking about

hey,

FRA didn't start the post...just defended themselves....and if you take the multiplier that the publics forced down everyone's throat...you would have undoubtedly seen a better performance in Fball and Bball...seems like they have a state championship in both at one time??? I think u may have a problem with your complete understanding...?????
