Yea I heard about that. That's a HUGE loss for them. Guttusso is a good central player, but he doesn't bring the offense like Totti. Also, Alan Smith broke his leg and dislocated his ankle yesterday in injury time vs. Liverpool.

who out there today do you guys think deserves a slot on the team or even a starting job?

i watched the game..score should have been 5-0...Rolfe's goal should have counted...i didnt see a foul or offsides...but, i did see the one where it went out of bounds and a player on the bench played it back in...but still, there was some nice goal scoring on USA's part.

Bruce Arena made a mistake by not starting Johnson...because as soon as he put him starting the 2nd half, he scored in under a minute and 30 seconds...hopefully Johnson will do big things for US this summer. :thumb:

To answer your question Man U: The players who I think today deserved to be on the team were Pope (starter), Johnson (starter, depending on the formation) Conrad (good player to come off the bench in Germany, MLS def. of the year) Hejduk (vet, you know he'll be there), and MAYBE Zavagnen. I also forgot Josh Wollf who I think will make it. My starting lineup for the first game vs the Czech on 6/12 would be: (AND I"M NO EXPERT, SO I WON'T TRY TO BE)

Keller

Bocanegra

Pope

Gregg Berhalter

Corey Gibbs (Anyewu for his size and speed, not much on skill)

Reyna

O'Brien (Dempsey)

Beasley

Eddie Lewis

Donovan

McBride (Johson)

Take it for what it's worth. Just my opinion, so feel free to create your own lineup and we'll compare

I agree with all of that except Gibbs. At least for the first game. i think him being sick/injured will hurt him

yeah has a pretty bad knee injury i would say gibbs is done plus i think arena will only take 6 or 7 defenders

I think the starters are as follows:

Keller

Hedjuk, Pope, Onyehue(not sure of spelling), Bocanegra

Dempsey, O'Brien, Donovan, Beasley<<<<<Midfield in Diamond Formation

McBride, Johnson

Subs: Howard, Conrad, Twellman, Reyna(depending on health), Gibbs,

Reserves: Olsen, Zavagin, Convey, Wolfe,Hannemann, Ralston, Pierce

I've got to say that Twellman at least deserves a start for what he's done, but all of those forwards are doing so well, its hard to give the spot to any of them.

Twellman, in my opinion, is still a reserve. Yes he has scored goals, but it was in a thrashing of Norway. I don't think he can compete with McBride and Johnson just yet. Nonetheless, he will be in Germany I think. McBride is a trusted vet and plays in arguably the best league in the world. Johnson has the size and quickness Twellman doesn't have.

I agree, and its not just that McBride plays in the best league in the world; he thrives there...did you see the Fulham/Chelsea game? McBride gave John Terry all kinds of fits, and he is the best center-back on the planet...and Eddie Johnson could make a difference on ANY team, he is just so fast and strong...big too..I think if those two aren't the starters for the World Cup it would be a very big mistake and we wouldn't have a chance on scoring against great defenses like Italy and Czech Republic...

    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
