Ineligible Player

Looking for opinions on the use of an ineligible player. If a person knows for sure that another school is using an ineligible player should they turn that person and school in ? The player in question is a transfer student and went to another school that has ONLY won 3 games all year. Pretty sure the coach and administration knows that the player in question is not eligble. Looking for thoughts.

I'd say don't snitch for the sake of being a snitch. Also, don't turn them in to be vendictive. If this player is adversely affecting your team and/or the district's performance then the problem should be addressed. I don't think that "turning them in" should be the first response. A coach from an opposing team should tell the coach of the team in question about their concerns. Let the suspect player's coach have a chance to respond. It could very well be that the player was cleared to play through the proper channels at TSSAA. You or your coach would look pretty stupid trying to raise a stink if, in fact, the girl is eligible to play. It seems to me from reading your post that the player's current team has only won three games. In that situation, the school has not benefited from playing a suspect player and therefore this issue should be mute.

A rule is a rule, regardless of whether or not she is an impact player. If there is a good reason for the change, then the state can exempt that person and OK the situation. We are suppose to be teaching the students not to cheat. This sends the message that it is OK as long as you do not get caught. This reflects a bigger problem that our society has with the same issue.

Cheating, except during WAR, is not acceptable. :thumb:

That player may not benefit the school or the team, but it is keeping someone else from playing. That someone wants to play too and is playing by the rules. It is kinda a slippery slope thing.

That being said, your answer is good. Do this up front and not in secret. And a ruling should be made based on what is best for all the students. It is about the kids and this time in their lives will soon be gone and can given be gotten back. :)

Also, although rules should be followed, no rule is set in stone. Sometimes they should be broken.

Who in the world are we talking about? Who is the player in question? What school? Sounds like an all american is in trouble! A rule is a rule.... we all have the right to know who this is. Spill it!

The player in no way is an all american.......switched schools for the simple reason she wasn't starting at her school (which is just an average team). I understand the rules states that if the students parents don't have a bonafide change of residence then that kid has to sit out 1 yr. from date of last participation. The schools AD and Principal were made aware and pretty much just blew it off.

There are several cases this year where a transfer was denied elligibility after going throught he proper channels. If the allegation above is factual then the girl and school should be reported. Are you aware that playing a player before she is elligible results in a 2 game suspension for every 1 game she played. By playing her the coach may have really done this girl an in justice.

That's the real problem, and it most always is. Your AD is the one you should report. That position is too often held by someone who is just in it for the extra money. Putting a child and the school in a position like that is wrong. When the T$$AA starts punishing and suspending AD's these problems will go away.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
