Gallatin has to forfeit this weeks games

Due to using an ineligible coach in a JV game two weeks ago, Gallatin is forced to forfeit their district games vs Hendersonville and Mount Juliet and they will also not be allowed to play in the White House playday on Saturday. This was a decision by the school's administration. Galllatin self reported themselves to the TSSAA and this was the administration's proposal. The TSSAA backed it as far as I know. The games will be ruled as no contests. It will not hurt Gallatin's overall record, but will hurt their district standing. The coach used was an ex player that is presently playing baseball in college. He just was not certified. It is just unfortunate for the varsity team that they have to deal with this. The forfeits have nothing to do with the tornadoes that came through. Everyone seems to be doing ok at the moment from those. We did have a few players that had some damage done to their homes and one player even had a house collapse on him. He is doing fine though. It has been a tough 3 or 4 days for the Wave, but we will survive. I thank everyone for all their prayers for us.

its good to hear everyones doing all right. but i have a question about that rule on the coach being ineligible. what about jv teams or varisty teams who r a coach short and just send out a player to man the first base coaches box. is that illegal? because i know just about everytime does that at least one a season.

I know this is totally off subject but how bad was Vol State hit. I am playing ball there next year and i was just wondering how much damage they got.

Actually the tornado did rip through part of the school. Vol State classes have been cancelled all week. The girl's softball field is pretty much destroyed. The baseball field , which lies almost all the way across campus really was not affected with exception of some trash and debris flying on the field. As far as I know though, there was no structural damage to the field.

why would they penalize the varsity for a JV violation?? doesn't make sense, that should not be the case... but considering some of the tssaa's other senseless stuff that would be par for course

The school self-reported and made suggestions to the TSSAA regarding the penalties. The TSSAA, even thought they didn't have to, accepted the penalties that the Gallatin HS administration had put forth. The TSSAA didn't do anything wrong on this one.

then gallatin did... you can't tell me they would make you forfeit games for that...

i agree, thats a horrible reason to give up some games. doesnt seem like that big of a deal to me...maybe if they tried to play the ex-player, but to let him sit in the dugout and maybe give a little advice...tough luck.
