It might to be good to look at what the records were for the second half of the district season to better see how the District looks. We'll try to get that information after the last game.

The games last night were very likely the hardest fought ganes as a whole of the season. 7AAA has gotten to be a District that has found a way to win with defense and it has taken major efforts by some unlikely players offensively to take some on the road wins. 7AAA has become a very balanced District with some good play. While the snow possibly had some bearing on the frigid shooting it was great defensive play that kept the scores down.

it almsot felt like 7AAA Tournament play and it is about 1 and a half weeks before that happens and two District playdays to finish 5 of the " Scintilating 7" play days that has been the second half of the season. Yes, we are not thru quite yet and some great games still to be played. But more about that a little later.

Siegel 41-White 36

Siegel was very concerned about the game with with a very tough White County that was hampered by and injury to one of its major players, Joni Sompson, who played like a wounded tigress but come up a little short 41-36. Playing White on the road is like going to a dentist and having a tooth pulled as you know it has to be done but you know, realize there will be pain in doing it. White scrapped and played hard and were tied with Siegel 28-28 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Only some great 3 point shooting by Allie Wright and a great defensive effort by Siegel allowed Siegel to come ahead in the fourth and win the game. it had to be one of the hardest fought games of the night. Wright led the Stars with 14 and Simpson with 9 for White.

Riverdale 49

Wilson 40.

Campbell Brandon was rocking when Lebanon come back after being down 15 at the half and were tied at 28 at the end of the third quarter. it was another hard nosed defensive battle by two defensive teams that tried very hard not to be beaten but Riverdale came back in the last quarter and won the game. bivins scored 21 for Riverdale and Lanning had 12. Brooks had 17 for Lebanon who arguably is finishing up the season as one of the most improved teams in the District. This was a great defensive battle.

Cookeville 39

Oakland 31

Cookeville came out with the win after the game being tied and the end of the third quarter. The game was a very hard nosed defensive battle and one that could have been won by either team. Again cookeville wound up outscoring Oakland again in the fourth quarter as Oakland seemed to be worn down again by a tremendous effort the first three quarters. Tara Davis led oakland with 15 points and Helton, the fine left hand post for Cookeville again led Cookeville with 18 points.

Blackman53

Warren 44

This might have been one of the best games of the night as here was two teams giving a great effort to not being at the bottom of 7AAA. they didn't play like that. Tukeea Hicks came up with one of her best games of the season and scored 17 points. It is thought if Hicks could have been more consistant and play like she has played in some games, blackman would have been a different team this season and still may be.

Warren Cpunty, playing an inspired game was only behing 25-22 at the half but was outscored 11-6 in the third and lost 53-44. it was a great game by Brooke Bowman with 4 threes and scoring 22 points.

WE are down now to the last two play days of the season along with some other great games scheduled to finish the season. This Week the Battle of the East occurs when Cookeville goes to White County and renews a great rivalry that will fill up the White county gym. It is the one that White county points to each year and will be a great contest. Lebanon takes it tough defense and travels to Siegel and plays the Stars. this game might likely be an overtime thriller as both teams have a lot at stake in this game. The premier game will be the game between Riverdale and Oakland and the last regular season game between the two teams and its high profiled player Lanning and Bivins for Riverdale and Davis and McCleary for Oakland. For those in the Boro, or anywhere for that matter, this will be a good one to see if you can get a ticket. So we are winding down the regular season, very few injuries, great scoring but here at the end, some of the best defense that has changed the outcome of a number of games.

Seems like you never even give anyone else any credit. In the white/siegel game there was a tie for high score for white. Also just to add, this white co. team will be much much better next year and should have more team play.

It is very good to see the results of the MJ Lebanon matchup last night when Mj beat lebanon by only 6 points. this is getting to an end of a season when the progress of this team has been refreshing. This was the Lebanon team , a couple of years ago, lost to a MJ team that scored 100 points on them. it is difficult to tell Lebanon how proud 7AAA is of their progress and the Staff at LHS who decided to get to work and supported the girls basketball team this year. As has been mentioned before, thye work is not done and some schools will regret it but everyone knows now that 7AAA is respected in Wilson County and LHS will in a couple of years or sooner be competing for the top spots. Coach, 7AAA acknowledges the work that has been done and knows what had to be done to get where this team is.

I was at the game, DT, and agree that White County will be a force to contend with. All of their young team members have vastly improved and they can play with anyone. I think they will be one of top condenders next year. I never saw the box scores, but know that all of the girls can shoot and they have excellent team speed. Add a Great tradition and Coach and I don't see how they won't excel.

I believe White Co. will move out of the bottom 4 in the dist. and into the top 4 teams in the Dist. next year. We will miss Joni badly, but the younger girls will get better, we have the best freshmen class coiming up that we've had in a long time, and most of all Riverdale, Oakland, Siegel{and others} graduate their best players THIS year. he he
