Cloudland's New Coach

KRICH, It's not official until it clears the school board. It's basically an unofficial official resignation. Nah, when I said that, I was trying to prevent the story from leaking to our competition who often read this board, but one of Cloudland's parents tipped them off.

I agree with Pujo, I'd like to see Smith and Buchanan work with the team. Kerry would be great for the weightroom.

We need to talk with the powers that be at Cloudland and see if we can get him in Roan Mountain.

I still stand firm though and say that the answer is at Hampton. I know the Bulldog fans don't want to hear this and I may be a little selfish when I say I'd like to see Little Mike and Jordan play together. That was one of the reasons Jordan's family moved from Avery. When they got here, Mike and Michael were gone so it never got to happen. Oh well.

That would be a great coach for Cloudland. He knows how to use every player on the field.I think Avery would of won last year if he would of still been the coach.

I liked what he did over there, Actually I know Terry , played ball with him at Avery, His dad coached me in all stars. I liked the whole family. He was about doing everything perfect, he always expected the same out of himself.

word I here is Mike Lunsford could be returning. Also I here Star Reporter Tim Chambers will be intervied for the job, Chambers coached basketball in the mid 80's and early 90's and was very successful. He also led Hampton to the watauga Conference Championship in the late 70's either way Cloudland will be on the winning track with either

That's a joke about Chambers, right?

The 2nd best baseball coach in the county is available but he ain't no teacher and it certainly ain't Chambers. Payne is the top coach in this area.

payne couldnt win at cloudland nor anybody else and chambers is a very good baseball coach because i played on two of his teams

That's a joke about Chambers, right?

It will take a die-hard to take over as coach here. Seems to be to many parents involved with the decision making, What with the rumours of petitions and all. Out of all the names mentioned, Terry Smith would be the most logical;i.e. not from Roan Mtn. I hate to see people turn on there own, and if a coach doesn't win 10 games next year, ya'll want him out too, whoever it is. A friend of mine once told me that "a coach is only as good as his last game." Seems to be true.

From a teaching standpoint, Terry Smith would not even consider coming to Tennessee from North Carolina.

I teach in North Carolina, and I was once approached by a former principal from Cloudland about a teaching position that I immediately turned down. I would have taken a $16,000.00 cut! So get the idea of Terry Smith coming over here to take that much of a cut PLUS his retirement years going down the drain!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
