Congraulations to Giles Co. That was a great game. I hated the outcome, but it was a great game. South Side's secondary did show up for this one. I really thought the game would turn after that great goal line stand by South Side- but it wasn't to be. We shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times (two turnovers inside the 15, stepping out of bounds at the 2 on kick off return) but the bottom line is Giles held us to 7 points- something nobody else has done. Hats off to Giles. I will pull for you against Lipscomb.

Congraulations to South Side 11 & 1, Undefeated Regular Season and the best team in South Side history.

Let's see...which one do I pick?.......Looks like Giles County rolled over a nice cupcake 21-7. My goodness the 6-3a champion that had a "state" championship defense got 66 pts rang up on them by two 5-3a teams and fortunately for SS they did not have to see #1 5-3a DL or it would have been well over a 100+++++ pts. Time to start BB practice.

Out of some of these quotes I did see some things that did happen. the ball DID get run down the throats of someone..only it was Giles doing the running and I think that cupcake does fit this year as in ....YOU'RE OUT OF HERE!!!!

Southside fan 78.....and big mike....welllll boys you talked the talk but ?????....looks like Giles walked the walk and takes a convincing victory on the road against "cupcake" region 6-3A. By the way I love cupcakes...

annnddd....sshawks needs some math work.

I repeat...no state champ out of region 6...what were you thinking.....bad news again for region 6...almost every team returns a bunch in region 5 and it will be ugly next year

Being a gracious winner can be a good thing. You should try it.

This was a game between 2 pretty evenly matched teams. It came down to the team that made the least amount of turnovers and mistakes and that was Giles. I thought both programs had great teams on the field. Giles didn't just come in and roll over a cup cake, I think any Giles county fan that was there will tell you the same thing.

It came down to a Southside kick returner catching a ball that was clearly going out of bounds, he fielded the ball on the 2, and that gave Giles excellent field position after a 20 yard punt. The next drive Giles went in to score just before the half. Giles got the ball back on the kickoff after half time, and Southside stopped the GC running back at the line of scrimmage on 3rd down, but a Southside LB came in the pile after the RB was already stopped and grabbed a face mask. Instead of 3rd and 4 it was now 1st and 10 after the 15 yard penalty. Giles would then score. Southside also killed 2 drives by fumbling on the GC 12 and then by throwing an interception in the endzone.

Like I said, I think both schools had good teams on the field. Giles Co. was very physical and they made less mistakes. Giles had success running the ball and Southside had success passing, but they had very costly mistakes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Southside had 4 turnovers in all. You can't give a team as good as Giles that many breaks. Good luck to Giles Co. next week. :thumb:

I am sure big bad SS runs over Giles like they have every one else??????. You are up against a #2 seed in region 5...not cupcakes over there.....and if your secondary runs around looking helpless again. GC will have a field day.....Naturally my pick is GC....a high scoring game favors them.... If GC does not turn the ball over....they win going away........SS is about due for some mishaps on offense.....and for the biggest intangible of all....the Coaching edge definitely goes to GC.

DID I mention turnovers?????..........

SS had a good season....way to go Giles ...you did region 5 proud.

I am a region 5 fan and am not a Giles fan. My observations belong to me.

Giles folks can say what they want...I just like region 5 football and all of the teams

My point was simple...SS was not good enough to make a deep run and did not have enough coaching to get there....my point was proven....all I did was "buffer" the "overexurburant" SS fans.

Quaterfinals;;;;all REGION 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Great job Bobcats!

The unsung heroes of the night. The Giles County Band, Cheerleaders and fans ............. what a turn out in Jackson - - three hours away. The Bobcats may have found a new home field away from home.

Great job fans ....... turning a visiting game - into our "homefield" advantage!

Loud, visable, active with their game face on! Great job fans!

Now .......... lets get ready for another home game at the BRICKYARD!

I must say, South Side played a great game, but turnovers is what cost them the game. Plain and simple. As for the GC fans....I will have to say they were by far the trashiest fans we have seen this year. Tacky, Tacky, Tacky! But, if the people on here were any indication, we really should've expected that.

Great game South Side players. Great game Giles Co players. You did a great job, both teams. South Side had some stupid mistakes and Giles Co. had some smart plays. That's basically what it came down to.

South Side Fans.......Thanks for being so wonderful all year long. You have tact, loyalty, and above all, you are gracious and and a real "class act."

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
