Travis Stephens from Clarksville was good. Patrick Willis was a RB in high school. He is still the only player in TN history to be nominated for Mr. Football as a lineman and as a back in the same season. Id say he is a great one.

He played TE his first 3 years, and the reason fulmer let him get away was because he played for bruceton and d.brooks played at JCM.

vpender, it sounds to me like you die in the wool vol fans are blind when it come to PH & THUG U ...... In the past couple of years The University of Tennessee is the WORST IN AMERICA on BEING THUG U, over 20 players displined or expelled from our All Mighty Vols..... I think The University of Tennessee Football has been a disgrace to the childern of the State of Tennessee, they are supposed to be ROLE MODELS but all they see ( & not just in knoxville, but it is the worst place in America) are thugs a fighting, drugs, underage drinking and barroom brawls when these kids are not even old enough to be in bars or be drinking..... It is going on in more places than just knoxville, it happened in Fla this week, Ole Miss a couple weeks ago, and Georgia has had more this year than anyone, but Tennessee is by a very very large margin leading all Colleges in the last couple of years, the attendance & there performance on the field has reflected the poor judgement by the Coaches in recruting, the low character of the kids playing there, the both of them's on field game time performance..... Overall in the Past few years I would have to give Phil Fulmer and the entire Tennessee Team a big old F if I were grading them........ JMO.......... Bledsoe Co. Warrior

maybe you should look beyond that and see that pf does not turn their head like places in fla do when players get in trouble,or have police escort the players home after a fight and nothing be said like places in Mississippi and Lousiana!Pick up a paper in ga or fl and you will see the same thing anywhere! Judging by the lack of common knowledge post above,I would imagine that you are a died in the wool antiUT fan who does not have a clue!If they are all thugs as you suggest, why watch then??

I agree with you about Tennessee having more than its fair share of problems, but having over 20 players disciplined or expelled atleast shows Fulmer is making somewhat of an effort. A lot of schools should have more players than that disciplined, instead the Coaches do nothing but turn a blind eye.

James Little Man Stewart - Morristown West - class of 91

Travis Cozart- Lenoir City- class of 93

Scotty Witt-Clinton- class of 93

Ricky Upton- Jefferson Co.- class of 96 or 97 (I think)

Lee Roy Thompson- AE- mid 80's

Reggie Cobb- Knox Central- mid 80's

Brigham Lyons- Greenville- early 90's

Dustin Moore-Greenville- mid 90's

Shawn Summers- Oak Ridge- early 90's

Spencer Gulmire- Oak Ridge- class of 2006

Jeff Jennings / Scooter Houston-- Jefferson County -class of 2004

These are the best ones in East Tennessee that I have seen with my own eyes.

I'd have to say Troy Fleming.

We couldn't stop him when I played, and he was just a sophomore in that game.

It also has to say something that he is Top 10 in the country for career rushing yards in high school. He's ahead of Emmitt Smith.

I would have say Troy Fleming. Doesn't he hold the state record for most yards in a high school career at over 9,000 yards?

another one like many on here that ran into trouble was jeffery vaughn/dickson county. he was truly a great running back/mr football his senior year when they won the state. could not stay out of trouble though.

II saw him play, and yes he was a great running back.DC won the class AAA Championship under Coach Jerry Pearson who coached at Springfield for many years.

A few of the best I got to see:

Carl Woods-Gallatin

Travis Stephens-Clarksville

Lorenza Edwards-DCA

Troy Fleming-BGA

Kenny Weatherspoon-Stratford

What a great list. I remember Upton had one of the best "2nd halves" of football I've ever witnessed at William Blount one night. Most likely his senior year I'm thinking. Jeff Co. was way down at half time, and Upton came back out and just ran amuck the second half to lead them to a come back.

Cozart may have been one of the best "athletes" I ever remember seeing. Not just in football, he could dominate a basketball game as well. Sad that he never got it all together on the college level.

Talent is talent! Look at the game tonight with west virgina vs pitt. The guys from pitt could not catch pat white or slaton no matter how much pride pitt has.a 4.3 will not be caught by a 4.6 guy no matter the grit or love of football. The fact of the matter is that Tennessee produces far less talent instate and is forced to look out of state for playmakers.I know this wont go over well on a high school Tennessee football but stats dont lie!States like Bama,GA,Miss,Fla ,LA produce tons more talent than Tennessee! Look it up and see for yourself!

Tennessee doesn't produce the depth of football talent as some other southern states where family shoot each other over games(that's no joke) and where football is more important than going to church, but there are always the handful that are big-time prospects nationally around here. Pat Turner, Chris Donald, Golden Tate, Smith, Fisher, etc. These guys are big-time. The glaring problem I see is that there is no reason UT should be letting ANY of those handful get out of the state, not one. When you have 5 big-time players to recruit in the entire state how can you let them go to Notre Dame, USC, or Alabama??? If you can't win the 4/5-star recruiting battle in your own state it's a very bad sign.

One other thing, although UT has had some bad player problems, as does every major football school from time to time, nobody can compare them to Miami's troubles.

    • Yeah, but if he goes to Science Hill they are guaranteed at least a win over Kingsport and that's basically the NET Superbowl
    • I expect Sevier County might be pretty good, perhaps Mo West as well.     But I don't see either of them getting out of round 2.          The rest of the region gets smoked in round 1.            Except for those once-in-a-blue-moon anomaly years the NET big schools are pretty much the same every season.
    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
